But now that she's dead.... we all have to pretend we are paying our respects to her.

I have never understood why the act of dying entitles someone respect they did not earn in life.

A some people sure do not get it like Saddam, Arafat, Hitler, etc.

I think mainly it's because they no longer can protect themselves."

I'm not sure I'd call it respect; I still disagree with everything Molly Ivins wrote and couldn't stomach her writing at all.

I think it's more that death is the great equalizer. No matter our political persuasion, some day we will all die. Maybe that's what we're respectful of.
