The Park Police will not allow them to gather on the memorial grounds, but just in case - bookmarked

In any event I think there should be a VN Vet tribute gathering there at the same time.

// Clinton there in 93//

Wow, you were there for that?

I remember that event.

I have not been to DC in so may years and this year it looks as I will be there at least 2 times before March is over.

"This is somewhat ironic because the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was considered a leftist memorial at first because it seemed portray the soldiers as victims rather than heroes, there was no explanation of what the war was about and the statue of the three soldiers wasn't added until several years later."

Interesting... I didn't know that :o

No doubt there was controversy from the very beginning, because the war and it's aftermath was controversial. There was even controversy amongst those who proposed a memorial - - Jan Scruggs and others. There was a tad bit of racism when Maya Linh's (sp?) design for the memorial was selected.

I just think the Memorial transcends politics.

Yeah, it wasn't planned that I know of. Most who were there were just unhappy that Clinton was sort of "in our face." The "about face" was impromptu and I just happened to be in the formation. Some guy took charge and put us in formation before we did it.

If we don't start calling out these disgusting lunatics and slapping them with charges of treason soon, I fear that this nation will find itself in a civil war. These maniacs have been finding out that they can get bolder and bolder every day with absolutely no repercussions. If they are not held accountable for their actions it WILL take the jump from despicable 'symbolic' acts to serious acts of violence and outright conflict. These people are not Americans any longer in my book, and haven't been for quite some time. When will this madness stop and who will have the ability (and the balls) to actually do something about it?

A complete list of moonbats for your information. Do what you gotta do.

That's a broad-spectrum collection of communist sympathizers and islamist collaborators. There's even some of the "free Mumia" crowd.

This isn't an "anti-war" demonstration. It's a "Hate America, Destroy America, Destroy Western Civilisation" demonstration. It's all about the hate.

I just think the Memorial transcends politics.

I, too, remember the controversy about it ... that placing "underground" (it's below grade) implied that we were somehow ashamed of those who are memorialized on it. In theory, I even agreed with that.

Then, a couple of years or so after it was opened, I went to see it.

I changed my mind.

Completely

I'm glad the more traditional memorials were erected, but the wall is hallowed ground and I cannot but feel pride and gratitude for the men who went over there.

Those were sort of my reactions too. As much as I like the addition of the three-man statue and the flag pole now, back then I had already accepted the simple beauty of the Wall and was against adding things for PC reasons. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial may still be the most visited site in DC.

There are a few names you would expect that aren't --- yet. Keep checking the list. I keep a list.txt in case they decide to pull it. Know your enemy.

Whoever would do such a thing had better hope the Park Police get to them before the vets do.

Where did you hear about the Wall being spray painted last week? If Hannity or anyone else reported it, they were either making it up wholesale or being mislead. As soon as I saw this posting I called the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and they swear it has NOT been defaced. It was NOT spray painted. To be certain you might want to check it out yourself: 202-393-0090.

For their sake, I hope that's true. No one is to touch that wall except in prayer, remembrance and respect.

How dare they do this in such a solemn place. What's the name of that group that keeps the Phelps Klan in check at funerals?

The protest was preplanned and our ranks totaled 2-3 thousand in the formation.

I was one of the organizers. I also was the veteran with the Marine Sgt. Shirt on that gave you the command "About Face!"

We generated hundreds of thousands of postcards sent to the white house asking WJC not to deliver his speech using the VN WALL as prop, as we veterans saw it as he would dishonor it, given his Draft Dodging and Antiwar activities and his "loathing of the military".

When he would not relent from his plan the protest plan was hatched by three fellows (One a former Green Beret) from N.C.)

I debated Jan Scruggs (The idiot who invited WJC to speak there) on national radio for an hour the Friday prior.

I also appeared on the Today Show with Kati Curic Memorial Day morning 1993 and debated Scruggs again. (On scene feed)

I had all I could do not to deck him on worldwide TV after he said "we need to get past this nonsense", in reference to the righteous indignation we VN Vets we felling about the use of the Wall for WJC to prop up his sinking approval numbers at the time.

I did a total 53 interviews that day, with media from all over the world. The other organizers did likewise.

I certainly hope that someone will organize and protect the integrity and honor of those who's names are upon that Wall and not allow it to be defaced, defiled, or pimped, by leftists who hate every thing these good men sacrificed for.

They have a right to protest. We earned that for them...

Just do not do it on the graves of my brothers.

They need to be prevented by a counter demonstration and the human "Honor Guard" of citizens and veterans mentioned above.

Hope someone steps up to the plate and gets it organized.

You miss understood. I didn't mean the Wall itself was spray painted last week. At the anti-war demonstration on Sunday I think it was several protesters attempted to spray paint various monuments, statues and buildings. Don't know if they actually succeeded in doing so but the cans were definitely there, out, and ready for use.

Talk about a small world. YOU were the one. I apologize for my poor crowd estimating ability. I do remember they kept us well away on that eastern side of the memorial. I had no idea there had been that much planning, but I do remember being mad enough to be there. Oh, my son, who had just finished basic and AIT, was with me. He's now an Infantry Ranger Captain stationed in Kirkuk.

BTW, you did a good job of giving the drill commands. Welcome home.
