Morocco Raises Threat Alert
2/15/07
CAIRO -- Morocco has raised its security alert amid the threat of an Al Qaida strike. Moroccan security sources said authorities have raised the threat alert to Code Yellow in wake of an intelligence report that Al Qaida-aligned insurgents have infiltrated the North African kingdom. They said the insurgents intend to conduct a series of attacks in Morocco.
"We believe that the terrorists have come from Algeria," a security source said. The sources said Code Yellow, one below the highest level of alert, required authorities to increase security at all installations regarded as critical and sensitive. They said this included Western embassies and diplomatic residences.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Houston is planning to ask that accused terrorist Daniel Joseph Maldonado remain in custody without bail as it prepares its case against the man who is the first U.S. citizen charged with joining Islamic extremist combatants in Somalia. VOA's Greg Flakus has more from Houston.
The Maldonado case is scheduled to come before a federal judge in Houston next Tuesday, where prosecutors are expected to ask that bail be denied based on the risk of flight and Maldonado's potential threat to the community. There is as yet no indication of when the case will come to trial.

Al Qaeda, Hizbollah, Hamas members and their ilks the world over are delighted. Soon, they and other criminals can use cell phones to transfer money around the globe.
The GSM Association, the mobile telephone operator trade body, announced that 19 mobile phone companies will allow more than “600 million customers in over 100 countries,” to use their cell phones to transfer money internationally. “The system will allow a person to put cash onto their mobile, and order it to be sent to a mobile phone number abroad, where the recipient receives a text message saying that money has arrived.”
“The system will allow a person to put cash onto their mobile, and order it to be sent to a mobile phone number abroad, where the recipient receives a text message saying that money has arrived… the initiative could double the number of recipients of international remittances to more than 1.5 billion." This new initiative, which is said to help migrant workers to send money to their families, would undoubtedly defeat most efforts to identify the users and follow the money trail. A terrorist dream comes true.

Richard Miniter has links to Maldonado's blog and website.
SNIP:Also, here are two links no one else in the press seems to have found yet.
Maldonado’s weblog, where he admits to be an “extremist” and a “Whabbi” (his words and his spelling): http://danielaljughaifi.wordpress.com/2006/
Maldonado’s Islamic Network website:
This is a site designed to bring American Muslims and especially recent converts together online. Interesting side questions appear: Can you a sheikh to interpret your dreams? Is Gone With the Wind really the best novel ever written? He doesn’t appear to have a myspace.com page, but if any one finds one, please send it along. More to come.

Both are hyperlinked at the above Richard Miniter link. The first one (Maldonado’s weblog) caused my laptop to freeze but that could be due to all my firewalls.
Seems to be alot going on in Canada these days:

The materials could be used to create explosives, police said.
The suitcase's owner has been identified, and a security perimeter was erected around the airport. Explosives experts are combing the building.

Bomb fear at Quebec airport a false alarm
Thu. Feb. 15 2007
QUEBEC -- A traveller's personal effects set off an alarm and sparked bomb fears today at Quebec City's airport. Police said at a news conference it was a false alarm and there was no bomb.
The international terminal at the airport had to be evacuated after the suitcase belonging to a 45-year-old man heading to the United States set off an alarm and set in motion emergency procedures. A security perimeter around the international terminal was set up and the provincial police bomb squad had to be called to the scene.

SLTRIB.com: "TROLLEY SQUARE: SUSPECT RARELY SEEN BY HIS NEIGHBORS A high school drop-out, Talovic's life and motive for the shooting remain a mystery" by Matthew D. LaPlante (ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Police say the gunman met his first two victims in the parking lot, firing off two rounds as they fell. "Die, motherf-----," Talovic said to them, according to one witness. Talovic appears to have uttered few further words. Witnesses said he moved deliberately through the ground floor corridors, firing round after round at helpless others, sometimes swearing, sometimes ordering his victims not to look at him. In seemingly random fashion, showing no emotion, he slaughtered five people and seriously wounded four others.") (Last updated February 14, 2007, 01:29 AM MST)

A bomb squad carried out a 'controlled explosion' on a suspicious car near the arrival lounge of London's Luton airport after its departure terminal was evacuated.
Police had said that an anonymous male called at 7:40 pm and a car was found near the airport's arrival lounge that could not be accounted for. As a result, the departure lounge was evacuated and a 200-metre cordon was set up. "The bomb squad have now carried out a controlled explosion and declared the vehicle safe," a police spokesman said. "As a consequence, we hope things will return to normal at the airport shortly."
Luton airport is located to the north of London, about 30 miles (50 kilometres) from the city centre, and primarily serves passengers on low-cost international flights. Earlier, when the bomb squad was investigating the car, police said there would be no departures from the airport, and while there would be some arrivals, other incoming flights would be diverted. According to Luton airport's own website, about 9.4 million passengers used it in 2006, about 82 percent of which used low-cost airlines, while 84 percent were flying on international routes.

Kuwait Increases Security Alert
2/16/07
ABU DHABI -- Kuwait has increased its security alert amid the threat of sectarian strife. Officials said the Interior Ministry has decided to increase the threat level over the next few weeks. They said the alert was being raised in advance of the Hala celebrations later in February.
"According to instructions from the first Deputy Prime Minister and Defense and Interior Minister Jaber Al Mubarak, security authorities will be on higher alert during Hala February," an official statement said.
Under the alert, Kuwait would bolster security along the northern border with Iraq. Officials said authorities did not rule out the prospect that Al Qaida insurgents from Iraq would seek to infiltrate Kuwait and conduct attacks during Hala.

Utah gunman portrayed as good Muslim by family
The above linked article is from the Serbian media. It's a "he had such a difficult childhood" story.
I thought the photo caption was telling:
Sulejman Talovic. Noticeable is his nascent Wahhabi-style beard
placemark
Yes, the beard.
Oorang, I found this commentary while looking for something else:
