Water Emergency in New Milford

Monday, February 26, UDPATED: 5:30 p.m.

People living in the borough of New Milford are asked not to use their water by order of the Department of Environmental Protection.

Authorities said due to a possible vandalism incident water should not be used at all until further notice. This is not just a boil advisory. People should not use the water for any reason, according to D.E.P. At least 878 people live in New Milford.

A spokesman for D.E.P. said they responded to reports of damage to a door on a well house. There is no evidence of a breach, but the department is taking precautions.

Water samples will be taken to Harrisburg Tuesday for testing. Results should be known later tomorrow.

New Milford Water Authority officials would not comment further about the water use ban but said they will notify residents as soon as the ban has been lifted.

Anyone who needs water or wants to use bathroom facilities can go to the Blue Ridge School from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. tonight. Use the main entrance at the high school.
