Still Waiting
Dakota Voice ^ | 1/29/2007 | Carrie K. Hutchens

I don't know about anyone else, but I am still waiting for Michael Schiavo to make a correction on his blog about what "actually" took place in Colorado when he went there (to the debate) to supposedly ask Congresswoman Musgrave one question and she and her staff supposedly tried to have him removed. He called it, "My unreal night in Colorado - with radio link" (Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 08:05:14 PM PST). I'll say (from what I read) that it was his "unreal night".

As I said before in "Standing up and Admitting a Mistake: Not Schiavo's Style?",  if four uniformed officers were around my seat, I would have some idea of what was going on. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in "duh mode" to only be told later of what took place right there around me, as Michael suggests he was. If Michael's account is realistic -- his response and reaction is not. Nor is his response appropriate now that he has "learned" what he was "allegedly told" is not what took place. One would think if he can't get the words out that he was mistaken, he could at least have removed the inaccurate entry from his blog.

He has done neither.

I'm also still waiting to read about, "Also, maybe tomorrow I'll post about my election-eve rally with Bill Clinton in Florida." (A real election impact by Michael Schiavo, Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 10:40:34 AM PST).  Indeed, I would love to read that story by Michael, since I read it was not possible. Not if he was implying it was the Bill Clinton that is the former President of the United States. Will be interesting to see what he says about that if he ever does.

If Michael couldn't get it straight what happened at the Musgrave debate or even if he spent election-eve with former President Bill Clinton -- do you suppose he might have gotten Terri Schiavo's wishes mixed-up as well? (He does claim to have a bad memory from what I read.) Makes one wonder. At least makes me wonder. Whatever...

I'm still waiting for the corrections if not the explanations!

Now, now, we must remember the bee attitudes.

I noticed the swarm descended and then went away. I understand when you blow smoke on them they calm down.

They do huddle together, though, and move as a swarm.

To us they may be ugly, but beauty is in the eye of the bee holder.

Besides a dose of vitamin bee is good for you now and then so long as you don't get too much.

To bee or not to bee, they made their choice and wound up with hives.

Rebecca Riley

The blame spreads, maybe some good comes.

On February 23, a new grassroots advocacy group issued a press release to rally support for attorney Jim Gottstein in his legal battle with Eli Lilly over his role in providing secret company documents, obtained in litigation, to the media to alert the public about the health risks associated with Zyprexa that were kept hidden since the mid-90s.

In turning the document over to the press, Mr. Gottstein’s goal was also to alert the public about Lilly’s illegal off-label marketing schemes aimed at getting doctors to prescribe Zyprexa, a drug the FDA approved only for adult patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, to patients of all ages for uses that were not approved as safe and effective.

~Snip~

At the age of 2½, Rebecca was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and bipolar disorder and was prescribed Zyprexa’s atypical cousin, Seroquel, along with Clonidine, an adult high blood pressure drug, and Depakote, a drug approved to treat adults with epilepsy. None of these drugs were approved for children and they were prescribed in a combination that has never been tested even on adults.

Along with T'wit's tagline, not just the nazis but the World Socialists join the fray right along with our resident trolls and freeper sleepers who have been swarming about in recent days agitated about who-knows-what. If the swarms of trolls all as a body are for Rudy, what does that say about Rudy?

The WSWS has written extensively on another issue, the Terry Schiavo case. In that case in 2005, Congress and the Bush administration intervened against the wishes of Terry Schiavo’s husband to draft a bill to halt the removal of her feeding tube—the course of action she had indicated she would want if she ever ended up in such an irreversible vegetative state.

The emergency bill rammed through Congress had nothing to do with concern for Terry’s life, but was carried out at the instigation of the Christian fundamentalist base of the Republican right. As we noted at the time, the overwhelming majority of Americans looked on at this invasion into the most intimate sphere of private family life with disgust. Opinion polls showed that there was relatively little public support for their actions.

Bobby Schindler's recent talk at Cornell sure stirred up the beehive in these parts. His comments are repeated in an article today, as well.

“Please make no mistake, this was a court-ordered murder issued by Circuit Court Judge George Greer,” Bobby Schindler says of the “right-to-die” movement’s agenda to kill the disabled. “Terri’s life ended after two weeks of suffering without food and water and without receiving ice chips to help ease some of the pain she was suffering.” Devoting his life to educating the public about end-of-life issues and offering support to those with disabilities, Bobby Schindler, the brother of Terri Schiavo, will speak on campus Wednesday, March 7, at 7:00 p.m. in Goldwin Smith’s HEC Auditorium. Hosted by the Cornell Coalition for Life, he will tell “Terri’s Story” followed by a question and answer session. With new laws defining the subjective diagnosis of the persistent vegetative state (PVS), this diagnosis is now being used to determine whose life has value to society, and more troubling still, whether or not an individual has the right to life.

Ping to a thread on Christa Lilly by Fair Opinion. Thanks, Fair Opinion.

“We may have to rethink these people that have been called vegetative in nursing homes who may have some awareness of their horrible circumstances,” said Dr. Bjork. “It goes against the grain of what we thought.”

Dr. Bjork said that he had been skeptical of Ms. Smith’s previous reports of her daughter’s waking states, but that he was now a believer. He said Ms. Lilly was in a “minimally conscious state” rather than a persistent vegetative state.

This gives new meaning to PADding the books. PAD, what a benign sounding action for a doctor to take. "Here, let me put a PAD under your pillow..."

GLENVIEW, Illinois, March 8, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The leading US authority on palliative care has adopted a position of “studied neutrality” on the issue of physician-assisted suicide, following on the heels of a similar statement released by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association in November.

The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine released a policy statement following approval by the AAHPM board of directors on Feb.14, 2007.

“The AAHPM recognizes that deep disagreement persists regarding the morality of PAD,” the document states. “Sincere, compassionate, morally conscientious individuals stand on either side of this debate. AAHPM takes a position of ‘studied neutrality’ on the subject of whether PAD should be legally regulated or prohibited, believing its members should instead continue to strive to find the proper response to those patients whose suffering becomes intolerable despite the best possible palliative care.”

Btw, did you hear the roosters in that other thread? They kept saying "whackydoodle" as if it meant something. They were very pleased with themselves, as banty cocks always are.

I got to laughing about it because the banties ran wild at that resort we were at last week. I heard the same "whackydoodle-do" every morning. I figured that if you asked the front desk for a wake-up call, they would bring a rooster to your room.

That is all they have to crow about. They aren't much of a challenge anymore since they sunk into irrelevance, matter of fact are kind of boring, sort of like the cat toy that lost all its cat nip flavor.

We had a fine rooster a few years back and his early morning call was sort of nice after we got used to it. We miss him. He died of some sickness, not the usual way for these noble birds to go.

Rebecca Riley

Google search results for Dr. Kayoko Kifuji, the psychiatrist who prescribed the deadly drugs to Rebecca Riley, and the rest of the family.

The parents were taking the drugs prescribed to them by Dr. Kifuji when they were giving Rebecca and her siblings the drugs that were also prescribed by Dr. Kifuji. She had the whole family so drugged up they couldn't function. It's clear to me that Rebecca's parents were not fit to be caring for children, but it wasn't for lack of trying. They did just what the experts told them to do. They complied with DSS and Dr. Kifuji.

Other psychiatrists have stated that it's not possible to diagnose an infant with bipolar disorder, the drugs prescribed to Rebecca are not intended to treat the conditions she was diagnosed with, the drugs are not approved for use by children, the drugs are not approved in the combination prescribed, and the doses were dangerously high.

A competent parent would not have accepted their entire family, infants included, being diagnosed with psychological disorders, and being prescribed cocktails of deadly drugs like this. I've seen reports that these parents are poorly educated, which would diminish their capacity to make educated decisions. Instead of protecting her patients, Dr. Kifuji further diminished their capacity by prescribing strong drugs to them. When DSS questioned these prescriptions, Dr. Kifuji assured DSS that the prescriptions were appropriate.

Your post on that incompetent has them pegged. Now if authorities could ever absorb the lesson you brought out, and wield some real justice...

With some of these "professionals" we may expect evil intent way beyond the moniker of incompetent. In this case, perhaps it is enough for a murder charge.

but we should not underestimate the capacity for some of amazing stupidity and incompetence exceeding all known bounds. Here is an example. Our son, was staying for awhile in a very well known facility. (in our misguided efforts to get him well needed range of motion and related therapy,)

While there, he caught the usual light cold making its circuit through the facility. The doctor (foreign born and educated, not that there is anything wrong with that...) proscribed an antihistamine in unusual amounts for such a tiny tyke. When she realized our son was growing hyper with all that antihistamine, she actually reasoned that antihistamine in small amounts calm one down. Ergo lots of antihistamines should do even more. When he got even worse, she gave him even more. By this time he was practically stuck to the ceiling he was so hyper, dangerously so, and that is when we arrived. We asked the doctor for an explanation and so help me, she thought our kid should get even more. It was not malice, just stupidity.

But there is a pattern here, part of the disease of liberalism. Earlier I posted how in the education system, if it were not doing well, liberals would throw money at it. Then as it got worse, they would throw even more money at it, never understanding the money was achieving the opposite effect.

That is what happened with the antihistamines and that is what happened to our version of DSS at the time, who would heap money on getting incompetent doctors. And when the results were poor, they would heap even more upon us.

This just in from Romania (??) and elsewhere...

Good to see this article has multiple sources around the world.

...........................

More research is needed on the fate of severely brain-damaged patients, experts at a New York hospital said.

The doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center said the public is confused by news stories involving patients such as Terri Schiavo, and there's not enough known about whether specific patients will recover.

In a commentary in the journal Neurology, the physicians said a nationwide epidemiological study on how and where severely brain-injured patients are cared for should help.

"Right now, we don't even know how many Americans with conditions such as the vegetative state or the minimally conscious state are being cared for in medical centers and nursing homes nationwide," said Dr. Joseph Fins.

"Getting those numbers in a countrywide survey is an essential first step for the kind of research that would help us in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of these severely debilitating conditions," said Dr. Kathleen Foley.

I guess nobody told Adelaide the real story. Felos de se would be pleased.

I just can't help but wonder to which political party Adelaide belonged, and who was her favorite candidate. But I do suspect she will continue to vote for her favorites in 2008.

I watched my own mother die a crumb at a time over a decade. She didn't want to go that way, but there was little we could do to control it once she was in the hands of the medical establishment.

Adelaide was particularly horrified by the Terri Schiavo story and wrote eloquently about the need to let her go.

An exit of her choosing: unafraid and in control
