Immigrants in Richmond live in fear of deportation

Residents complaining of rights violations gain local officials' support

RICHMOND — Before leaving her Richmond apartment, Jenni Spezeski peeks out the front door and looks down both ends of the street. She is looking to see if any agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency, who have recently been cracking down and arresting illegal immigrants in Richmond, are waiting outside. But it's not Spezeski they're after. Once the graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, who grew up in Arizona, determines it is safe to leave, she escorts her fianc out the door. He is identified only as Junior, an illegal immigrant from Brazil who came to the United States four years ago.

Spezeski said she and her fianc are afraid of ICE, which has arrested more than 100 residents in Richmond and Concord within the last few weeks. They have considered moving out of Richmond to avoid Junior's possible arrest or deportation.

"We've thought of moving to Canada," Spezeski said. "But I have a job and stability here, and I have to think about the future."

It's harder to get a liberal to put 'illegal' in front of immigration than it is to convince a conservative that marijuana isn't addictive.

As well they should! Perhaps soon the idea of living in a country where they don't have to "live in fear of deportation" will sound good. Go back to Mexico (or wherever) already!!

please call 1-800-cry me a river

Why don't they apply like legal immigrants? I am sure someone with a college degree qualifies as desirable.

Every time I drive through Richmond, not by choice mind you, I see nobody but Mexicans and Blacks on the streets. They are hanging around, probably waiting for the next drug deal to go down. Once in a great while, you might see a Richmond PD squad car patrolling the area. When the police come down the street, it like turning on the lights and all the cockroaches run and hide. Richmond has one of the highest crime rates in the Bay Area. Being a truck driver, I am scared to death to drive those neighbors. With almost 9000 gallons of gasoline in the trailers behind me, I am a huge target of a truck jacking and getting shot in the process. Our company has a dawn to dusk delivery only in some Bay Area cities. Richmond, Oakland, East Palo Alto are just a few.
If there was a perfect world, there would be no illegals or criminals to be afraid of. But unfortunately, our liberal California government doesn't seem to want to improve itself. I wish there were more raids by ICE to arrest and deport the illegals out of our cities. But like the Border Patrol officers, the local police and sheriff departments have their hands tied, not allowed to do their jobs. We all need to stand up and tell our so-called for the public politicians what we want and not what they are getting paid off for. Clean up the streets and arrest the scum bags that pollute our cities.

Yes, they are all over the law as it pertains to their "rights", but screw the criminal code they are violating.
The woman, Skrewus, should be arrested and deported as well.

Ruben Gonzales, a Richmond resident, said ICE recently entered his home without a warrant and without knocking. They broke the door, he said on Sunday.

"I was only in my underwear," Gonzales said. The federal officials made his wife, his grandchild and a family friend lie on the floor.

I have no sympathy with illegal aliens but I would be interested in why there was a need for a no knock raid looking for illegal aliens at this house.

The frequency with which LEAs use no knock raids IMO has reached the point were our right to secure in our homes free from unreasonable searches and seizures is meaningless.

I wouldn't take his word for anything. He does have an agenda, after all.

I'm guessing Canada said "sorry we really don't want anymore immigrants." But if she changes her name to Fatima Al Siad she should be able to find a welcome someplace.
