Let's be frank. Obama is black, Bill Clinton is white, and any black or woman running for President has much higher hurdles to overcome, and biases to break through. I don't see Obama or Hillary as having an especially easy time doing that. As far as being black and running for President, Colin Powell would have a far easier time than Obama, IMO, because of his experience, even taking into account how anti-GOP the press is.
I need to get clear on the details, but analysis that I have read indicates that the process is more and more front loaded. The nominations may be wrapped up, in effect, by this Fall.
Being both black and a female, I agree with your position. Voters in this country are not about to vote for a black guy and a woman 1) in the middle of a war, 2) together, without either a black or a woman having already been president.
I'd rather have the Presidency than the congress.
WHile I don't like that congress is dem now, IMHO, it makes it a better chance for a Republican in '08
I am sorry, guys, I know a lot of "smart" L.A. Liberals and they are eating this up. Obama believes his own shtick and knows how to speak. He could win the nomination if he can rile Hillary enough to show her up as shrill and humorless in debates. They may be platitudes but Ronald Reagan had some platitudes and he did well with them. Morning in America, anyone?
I agree up to a point. Hillary does need some help on the ticket in terms of national security credentials. Wes Clark may be the outside choice or Richardson. However, if Obama offers a strong challenge in the primaries, the Dems may be forced to put him on the ticket to placate the black vote, which they will neet to turn out in great numbers to offset Hillary's polarizing effect.

In the primaries, the Dems vote on the basis of race. They won't nominate a black man as a presidential candidate.

I don't know where you live, but no, we aren't. Not where illegal immigration is an issue. Our youths can't get local starter positions because illegal leads of households have them. Public schools are nearly pointless and taxes and insurance is constantly being adjusted so that we have to pony up more and more to cover the debts of the free services we give to illegals. We avoid emergency health care to the point where it's detrimental to our health, while the illegals don't pay for their medical and even receive free dental. Our roads are too crowded. Our cities are blighted by gangs. The illegal immigration problem is killing the middle class.
