I'm not saying they should be trusted, simply observing that complaining about the Chinese building a port in Mexico is a waste of time when we (the U.S.) won't build any new ones of our own. And that's the crux of the matter: even if
we were building a port in Mexico, the usual suspects would still be complaining.
So you basically have no ports being built here, and the argument that no ports should be built there. Not very constructive [pun intended].
