Running a campaign by slamming your base and trying to force them to vote for someone who does not represent their views is a great way to insure you loose an election. And when that election is lost, they will just move farther left.

Absolutely. Sadly we watched the democrats vote for Kerry because he wasn't Bush and they lost so the GOP turned around and did the same thing and they lost. Seems like there would be some kind of learning curve at play somewhere.

The Republicans had idea fatigue. This is why term limits are a good thing- these guys forgot how to be Conservative or Republican, and joined the Congressional party.
Party mottos? "Because it's good for you!" and "Don't you know who I am?"
