US navy warned of 'suicide drones' ~ Iran warns us....

IRAN has built "suicide" drones capable of attacking US naval ships and forcing them to leave Gulf waters, said a Revolutionary Guards commander quoted by the semi-official news agency Mehr.

"We have built birds without passengers (drones) that can carry out suicide operations on the US Navy, at any depth if necessary, to make them leave the region in disgrace," said Ali Shoushtari, deputy commander of the Guards' land forces.

Agreed. The Navy held a series of exercises in the spring of 02 I believe with the scenario being a US surface force being attacked by small vessel suicide attacks. Long story short, the US side was destroyed. This threat is no joke, keyboard commandos on FR notwithstanding.

"Can we just,... PLEASE shut these fools up for good?"

Unfortunately, the plan seems to be for us to sit on our hands while the unarmed, unorganized and illiterate minority in Iran somehow take over the armed and organized Iranian Army.

I say give Israel the reins and let 'em level the wretched place. We're going to fight them sooner or later so let's do it now BEFORE they get any more Russian/Chinese/North Korean weaponry.

Do you believe that the exercises were demonstrative of the USA's capability?

And they seem so eager to actually give us a reason to perform a regime change in Iran the moment they do attempt attacking our Navy, IMO.

While they do have many short range missiles that can do serious damage to our naval vessels, they don't seem to be currently doing anything more than making grand pronouncements of their military prowess, and it is aimed directly at the wimps in the U.S. who will do whatever it takes to avoid an armed conflict with Iran.

Uh,...... didn't the Japanese try that in WWII without any success??

No, the kamikaze attacks were quite successful.

But in 1945, USN had over 3000 ships, and over 120 aircraft carriers of various types.

Somebody, somewhere, someday is going to figure out how to attack CVNs and on that day the world will change.

Do I think it will be a rug merchant? Probably not.

Didn't work for the Japs, either. Americans were so sick and tired of Japanese suicide tactics that we gave them a taste of real national suicide.

I don't know the answer to that, I hope not, but what concerns me is our total lack of ability to use our military advantage anyway. If the rules of engagement were different, Iraq would be finished by now. It's not our capability I worry about, it's our will. And our track record there is sorely lacking.

Uh,...... didn't the Japanese try that in WWII without any success??

The Japanese did have success.

Air Force Historical Studies Offfice: Kamikaze attackers sunk 34 Navy ships, damaged 368 others, killed 4,900 sailors, and wounded over 4,800. Despite radar detection and cuing, airborne interception and attrition, and massive anti-aircraft barrages, a distressing 14 percent of Kamikazes survived to score a hit on a ship; nearly 8.5 percent of all ships hit by Kamikazes sank.

In short, Japanese Kamikazes inflicted over twice as many KIA as the entire Iraq War and the U.S. now has a glass jaw in the Democrat Party and the left-wing so-called "Mainstream Media" that will gleefully act as a tremendous force multiplier for any success America's enemies as long as a Republican is in the White House.

It is a threat that must be taken very seriously in the confined waters of the Persian Gulf and must be countered very aggressively and hopefully preemptively.

Our objective would initially be to eliminate the immediate threat/government of Iran. Being as kind hearted victors as we are leads to bloody consequences (as shown in Iraq), but allowing Iran to progress would dwarf the cost a thousandfold.

Birds without passengers. Right. They better be supersonic birds or they're dead ducks.

We in Israel learned this lesson the hard way.

We learned the same lesson with the USS Starke. CIWS's are of no use when you turn them off.
