I think it is critical that the public is told the results of an investigation. Some important questions to be asked and publicly answered:

What groups did he "hang out" with in SLC?

What web sites did he frequent on the Internet, chat rooms, etc.?

What sort of reading material was in his room?

Is there a Mosque or Church attendance pattern?

Leaving these questions unanswered does no one any good. If he was a "Columbine" type with a trench coat and mullet haircut as he initially seemed, we need to know. Likewise, if the lure of Islam motivated him, we need to publicly know that.

It's premature to classify this as another act of Muslim terrorism before we know more about the killer. He may have been of Muslim ancestry, as his first name indicates, but a lot of Bosnian Muslims are Muslims in name only--it's possible that the religion meant nothing to him and that it was more of a Columbine-type event. There should be people who knew him who can shed light on his motives--if the media doesn't shut down the story.

It's better if his actions had nothing to do with Islam, or else the off-duty policemen who killed him might be accused of a hate crime.

Thanks for the voice of reason. I know a few bosnians and they are for the most part pleasant, gentle people, more secular than most Middle Eastern muslims, and in general nothing like this guy.

I realize I don't know this guy better than anyone else here does, so it's certainly possible the attack was an act of islamic terrorism. But I'm withholding judgement (for now).
