Obama blames slip of tongue for saying GIs’ lives ‘wasted’

Obama told a campaign trail crowd in Iowa on Sunday that the nation’s Iraq war dead were lives “wasted” but immediately claimed a “slip of the tongue.” “We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted,” Obama said on Iraq. “I was actually upset with myself when I said that, because I never use that term,” he later told the Des Moines Register. “Their sacrifices are never wasted . . . What I meant to say was those sacrifices have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission.” When asked about the remark during an appearance Monday in Nashua, he told reporters he meant to criticize civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military. “Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken,” Obama said. Stopping short of a full apology, Obama said, “It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any of them felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they’d shown.” Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry’s decision to not enter the 2008 race was blamed in part on a bipartisan backlash from his remark that people who did poorly in school would end up “stuck in Iraq.” He later claimed his remark was misinterpreted and said he was sorry if anyone was offended.

let's see - the real Demo party- Edwards hates Christians, Obama Osama hates the troops - Hillary uses 911 for her political gain and has a 911 hero's son cry on stage with her the day his father died. I'm glad they all started so early because by the time elections come around, the DNC will die from foot in mouth disease.

Oh, that is entirely a moralistic observation. You recall, I [Obama] was only a secular Muslim (you know, the Sadam variety) before I became a non-attending Universalist "Christian" of a sort [United Church of Christ]. So no one can lecture me about being "sorry". I'm as sorry as they come!

Mr. Articulate had a slip of the tongue.

Actually, when he explained about " I was actually upset with myself......" I laughed out loud. I heard Bill Clinton talking. I mean, really, who talks like that?

Only a lying weasel talks like that. And an unpatriotic leftist.

Well, the left can't ADMIT that they despise the military, any more than they can ADMIT that they are authoritarian socialists.

This is the one good thing about the protracted campaign season: The @$$hats will have cameras and mics everywhere to pick up their idiocy.

I would have more respect for him if he had stuck to his original statement. If he truly believes that the campaign in Iraq is wrong and harmful to the US, then "wasted" would be the correct term in the sense that they died for no good reason (in Obama's opinion) and deserved better.

Just to make it clear, I don't feel that way, but what if many troops had died in one of Clinton's pizza delivery runs?

So, does this mean he gets 2 weeks in rehab?

I am surprised that talkradio wasn't all over this. They hardly mentioned it at all. I guess any criticism or attacks on Obama are going to be too sensitive to do.

Are those on the right going to hunker down and hope Hillary does the dirty work for them?

I see Michelle Malkin has an article today on the subject.

Yeah, so now him and the rest of the Dem's, are gonna contribute to some more wasted American heros, by refusing to fund the troops. The real waste, is the empty space in the heads of the Dem's.

“We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted,” Obama said on Iraq.

Slip of the tongue??? Let me translate: I apologize for not running this comment through a focus group before using it in public.

If anyone seriously thinks that his intended line was:

"“We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans lost - sacrifices that have not been honored by the same attention to strategy, diplomacy and honesty on the part of civilian leadership that would give them a clear mission.”

then...that would indeed be the firmest proof yet that crack does not smoke itself. Just like Carry's "botched joke", Obama meant exactly what he said, but was caught off guard by the reaction. He failed to use language that covered all the bases (nice corporate lawyer speak) and accidentally exposed a real part of his personality. The best part is that now he is faced with having to explain why their lives were not wasted - something sure not to endear him to his far-left base.

They (the Dems that oppose)all are saying the "wasted" word
It is usually said, "They (our troops) have died for nothing." Think of that when they claim to want them all to come home. When we have over 3,000 of those young men killed at home in robberies and murders right here in our home cities every year. Not counting over 40,000 killed in traffic accidents. Maybe, just maybe, they are safer over there !!!!!!!!

After less than a week as an officially announced presidential candidate, the ‘’clean and bright’‘ Barack Obama’s inner Cynthia McKinney has begun to emerge from the darkness.
