Because there is an on-going legal matter in play. Libby is asking for a new trial which would mean no conviction. If that doesn't work then he wants to appeal which would mean he's not a convicted felon.

He is already a convicted felon. If he doesn't get a new trial, the sentencing takes place in May. Just because the case is on appeal doesn't mean that his conviction is overturned or held in abeyance.

I believe Libby should get what Berger gets.

But, if it is overturned on appeal then that generally means a new trial so the conviction does not hold.

If that conviction stands then that means he is disbarred and based on sentancing he could be on probation for a long time and that might be after doing time in the clink.

Pardon is the last resort.

Libby made three huge errors:

1 - He talked to media that he knew he could not trust to tell the truth

2 - He made his own decision on what to do and say to the Grand Jury

3 - He thought his legal experience would keep him safe before a corrupt liberal prosecutor

-

Scooter Libby turned out to be a really dumb attorney

Yes, his Grand Jury performance did him in. He talked too much.

Do we have "You Talk Too Much" - you worry me to death, you talk too much, you even worry my pet.........??

I heard today that he is a very charismatic man. Strangely his looks give the opposite impression, like he is smirking all the time.

Maybe that's just the face he was born with........snicker, sure hope so or he's had a face transplant!!

Sorry, I'm in a silly mood after painting for 2 1/2 hours on 'you know what'!!

Would have been great except neither of us was on the forum in '98, lol.

Plus, I didn't know html till you taught me.

Did you see my post #86 or was it too witty for you, lol.

Hillary gets elected no matter what.

Bill Clinton was defeated in two elections, so the Clintons are not invulnerable. Hillary can be defeated if the right GOP candidate is nominated and major mistakes are avoided.

Libby has not exhausted his appeals process - and granting a pardon to Libby before the 2008 election would count as a major mistake.

But, if it is overturned on appeal then that generally means a new trial so the conviction does not hold.

You are mixing apples and oranges. The first thing that Libby's lawyers are trying to do is to get a new trial by having this one thrown out. If a mistrial is declared then this conviction will not stand. However, as is most likely the case, this will not happen.

If the request for a mistrial is turned down, Libby will appeal the case. The conviction stands pending the results of the appeal. The sentencing will still take place in May.

It is better to have this overturned in a court of law and while he might have been convicted if he wins an appeal then he doesn't suffer the penalties that a convicted felon does.

No argument there except for the huge court costs he must bear to file an appeal. A pardon does remove the penalties of a convicted felon. As of now, Scooter is a convicted felon.

People are raising money for him and you know that there will be a $500K a year job for him somewhere when this is all over.

Glad to hear that. Then everything is OK. No harm, no foul. How does he get his good name back?
