A brilliant, gifted, flawed individual.

Dr. Dobson pins him down on his morality.

If I were counseling him as a pastor, I would perhaps ask different questions. We pray that he has truly repented--whatever his future holds...

Correction: I am a minister, but not a pastor--I do not want to give any false impressions.

Additional thoughts on Newt:

I know of no one today who can articulate big ideas with the skill and brilliance as the Speaker.

I am hoping, even if he decides not to run, that he will be an influence and actively participate in strategy and the Republican vision for America...

Let me expand upon that idea.

If we as a nation continue on our current poitical path, we are sunk. Newt knows this, he talks about it, and openly says that he fears for his grandchildren.

I don't see any candidate even remotely on the same (correct) wavelength as Newt. No one.

I will do whatever is possible and needed to put Newt in the White House, either as POTUS or as VP.

I've fully recovered from Newt's personal marital problems (it took all of 10 minutes). It is time to focus on what he's saying about our nation and our future.

You mean to say that without Newt so stating, we had no idea radical islam was a threat?

Maybe Dobson and the sociocons should spend their considerable energy on fighting the horrific real world dangers to Christianity (which is Islam) instead of tilting at windmills.

We are all sinners. Lest we forget Paul, arguably the greatest Christian of all, was a murderer. David, horrifically flawed and...a murderer. Moses, oh yeah, murderer. See, the Lord relishes using the broken to do great things, it brings Him greater glory. While I do not compare Newt to the above. It is quite conceivable, if he has truly repented and corrected the sin, that he could lead again. No doubt there is a track record for such things. Ronald Reagan was an absentee dad, W had a drinking problem. If we look for perfection we will be faced with a search with no end. The common thread, they all had their lives repaired by the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Newt could win....

I agree Newt has a brilliant mind and an ability to articulate conservative principles better than anyone, even Rush.

He is not a gifted politician, unfortunately.

I hope that those who would so easily give Newt a pass on his past indiscretions will do the same for Rudy. (And that's not to say that I support one of those men over the other.)

No candidate will be perfect and have lived a sin free life. But they should all be held to the same standards and not given a pass because of their political stances.

Agreed. It's unfortunate, but his personal life is an issue.

Newt's sure trying to get more and more face time. Newt's recent disclosures reminds me of all of those jailhouse conversions.

Am I wrong, but didn't us Freepers know way back when Clinton was being impeached, that Newt was having an affair?

I would add that it is a flaw to claim that you are not flawed.

IIRC, the "secret" lasted for 1 hour after his resignation.
