Giuliani leads McCain by 16 percentage points, a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll finds.

WASHINTON (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has opened up a double-digit lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Monday indicates.

Thirty-four percent of registered Republicans support Giuliani, while 18 percent support McCain, the poll finds. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are each tied at nine percent in the poll.

In a similar CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted at the end of January, McCain trailed Giuliani by only six percentage points, registering 26 percent to Giuliani's 34 percent.

Per the article... Notice that back in Jan Rooty was at 34%, now in mid Mar Rooty is at 34%. McLame is falling but zero of that support is going to Rooty.

I'd say poor Rooty has topped out and has nowhere to go but down. If Fred Thompson gets in Rooty Toot is finished.

Thompson at 1%. Hmm.

However...this is the first "official" media poll I've even seen him mentioned in.

"Because he was there on 9/11 and has a STRONG stand against terrorism. "

What ECACTLY is his "stand" on terrorism and how is it different or better than other candidates?

---"Rudy really isn't pro-abortion,"---

Then nobody is Pro-Abortion, period.

Rudy has raised money, and given money, to the most extreme Pro-Abortion organizations in the world.

He has celebrated Roe v. Wade, and called it "good Constitutional law."

He supports the right to Partial Birth Abortion.

He praised Margaret Sanger, several times.

He called for the changing of the GOP platform to become a Pro-Choice Party.

He made NY taxpayers pay for Abortions.

The list goes on and on -- Rudy IS Pro-ABORTION.

Tell me, "realist," how is Rudy going to end terrorism?

It's a poll of registered Republicans and independents. Still, your point is somewhat valid. Why don't they do likely voters only? You'll notice that up to 22 percent of these people have never heard of some fairly well-known candidates--not exactly the most well-informed bunch.

The poll doesn't include Fred Thompson. It's Tommy Thompson.

My mom is a lesbian and a conservative. Gays and lesbians are not the devil. I dont believe in the liberal "agenda" for gay marriage. I am a christian, so it is a struggle for me to find middle ground. I am not the only one. Laura Ingrams; brother is gay. Tammy Bruce is gay and supports President Bush.

Have you ever heard of Wendell Wilkie, the guy who opposed FDR in 1940. There were many side bar issues that Wilkie disagreed with FDR on. but Wilkie himself put national security ahead of his political ambitions. While he didnt agree with FDR on many things, he ran as a friendly rival and knew it was a national security election. Many may say Wilkie was weak for doing so. But it is that spirit of putting national security first that this country needs right now. I am behind Rudy because I believe he will be a legendary war time President.

---"Pick a poll."---

I use polls of likely Primary voters. The mean for Rudy in the ones I've seen is about 27-29%, some higher, some lower.

That means now, at his peak, he is at best enjoying 30% support from the base - and every poll says the same thing about the base: they will desert him as they learn more about his stances on the issues.

We're not all Liberals, GOP1040 - I'm sorry if that hurts your hopes of transforming the party.

Sorry, it's even worse than that: 42% have never heard of Mitt Romney, and 58% have never heard of Chuck Hagel.

I wouldn't give a CNN poll the time of day.

No matter what sample size, or who they "poll", it will be biased towards someone CNN prefers, and biased against someone CNN wants to see go away, because of their agenda.
