Most likely takes away votes from McCain, Romney and Gingrich. Rudy stay on top due to his broad-base appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I love Fred Thompson, the actor that is. Was an OK Senator, but really his 6 years in the Senate were nondescript. Nothing stands out. After one term bailed out for Hollywood and the big bucks. People know him primarily as an actor, unlike Reagan a Governor. Has no administrative experience and basically people do not elect senators or ex-senators as Presidents. Would make a good VP though, and is a real good friend of "it's my turn" McCain.
