Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco will formally announce this evening that she will NOT seek re-election, numerous political sources tell WAFB 9NEWS. Blanco was elected Governor of Louisiana in November 2003, becoming the first woman to ever hold the office.

As recently as last week, Blanco said she would be a candidate. "My plan is to continue running," Blanco told reporters last Wednesday

Wow this is a shocker! I am almost disappointed since I looked forward to seeing her defeated. Now a new Dem will probably have a shot. It would be a great boost for the GOP to pick this up. Given the choice though, I think I would rather see Rep. Jindal run against Sen Landrieu next year.

Please don't even think of that senerio. Landrieu lost her base in New Orleans. She could always count on NOLA to pull her through. She narrowly won her last election so she better think twice before taking any chances.

Well I am hoping he doesn't. Hopefully he will have this attitude

(1) I had a great Career
(2) Republicans and Dems like me
(3) I can go out with my good name attached
(4) I am making good money
(5) Since Louisiana is a mess I would be insane to jeopadize all that at my age

At least I hope that is Breauxs thought process. It is not like it would be over for Jindal by any means. But Jindal will ahve to raise a lot more money and it would be a race that I think would be close

Don't be too sure Breaux would win in a race against Jindal.

Someone just e-mailed me and said they heard on the news that Breaux can't run because he is no longer a resident of Louisiana.

True, also Breaux never had much serious competition after his first race. I just wonder if he has the "fire in the belly" to run or in fact be Governor. If I was him I don't think I would do it.

I'm not trying to wish Mary on you in the statehouse..I was making the political observation that the votes she is forced to make as a member of the very small Dem majority in the Senate may well make it impossible for her to win re-election tot he senate..therefore, she may prefer to try for the statehouse..

"The rednecks up in North Louisiana aren't going to vote for Jindal."

Bingo! The E-A-U-X sells well in Northern Louisiana. It's why Blanco ran as Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. Likewise, Jindal can't compete with Breaux. Those rednecks care more about a name than ideas to help our State.

I suspect that will not be a problem in the end. There is a question as to his Residency since there is a Argument that is now a resident of Maryland. Under Louisiana Law he has to be a citizen for 5 years. HEre is an article on this
http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070318/OPINION0106/703190322/1058/ADVERTISING

To be honest I think that barrier is not as big as the paper says it is. Citizenship is the term that used and not "resident" Citizenship I think is a tad more fluid term and requires much more of a intent than just residency because it relates to domicile.

That article is pretty informative.

You know Bobby did quite well up in North Louisiana considering that he started out the race at 2 percent. Most people are very Pro Jindal, Also for some reason people think that North Louisiana is lilly white Republican. Many of these Parishes have huge African American populations that vote Democrat.

As to the last race it would have been helpful iof Lafayeete Parish(that voted for Jindal over hometowngirl Blanco_ could have communicated the concerns they had we her up North. Because that didn't happen she got in

I don't think it is any sort of indictment. I would not vote for Blanco but I will give her this. She is honest , maybe inept but honest.

I think the poll numbers were just too bad and the combination of the Louisiana and National Dems told her they were not going to waste money on a sinking ship
