I understand and agree completely. That is why all mail asking for donations to the fund are returned with the notation: "Not while Brodhead's there." I hope they get the message. There is a place for radicals - I don't mind students being exposed to radical thought. I suppose I have enough trust in our youth (especially those who are smart enough to get into Duke) to believe that they will only use the experience to establish a "point of reference" in their world, not their parents world, of what "radical" means. Might a few be swayed? Sure. But not enough to matter. As a student during the "60's & 70's" - I certainly was exposed to radical ideas during college. I think it only intensified my disdain for them. They interfered with what I was in school for.

"Reports that charges would be dropped this week in the sexual assault case against three former Duke lacrosse players are inaccurate, a representative for the North Carolina Attorney General's Office said Thursday.

Spokeswoman Noelle Talley said special prosecutors are still gathering facts and that they do not anticipate any announcement regarding the investigation this week."

In the next few weeks could be Monday.

LOL! I gave up on my alma mater when they changed their mascot from an Indian to a tree because it was PC. What the? (I'm the parent of a Duke student - hence my screenname.)

I was wondering what the SP's office was thinking of the "reports" of the end. I'm sure they wanted to be the first to "break" the news.

BTW, making a false statement to the police is not the same as perjury in sworn testimony in court. Of course it probably was at some point a sworn statement to the police. But certainly Mangum should be charged for what she can be charged.

Why are prosecutors allowed to obtain indictments without so much as an affidavit by anyone with any personal knowledge related to the case?

If a grand jury indicts, you are indicted. There are basically no rules on that.

CNN's Nancy Grace will probably sue if this does happen. She convicted the boys on the first day, and can't be proved wrong by some dumb 'ole legal system.

Brings to mind some lines from SNL's parody "Nancy Grace's Christmas Greeting": "you think you can get out of this case with your fancy Yankee lawyers, and your money, and ... uh ... not having done anything you're accused of..."

We have a High School that had a Indian Brave for a mascot. The changed their name last year to "Storm". For weeks there were calls to the newspaper from Katrina refugees living in the area about the insensitive nature of the new name.

Nifong and Magnum have very large potential earnings from magazine interviews, and book and movie deals. They MUST be sued to prevent them from capitalizing on their crimes.

No, that would be too good to be true - then I would raise hell about it, but it's someone who left Duke years ago and applied the depraved PC-lessons from Duke in other venues.

I was waiting to see if someone was going to post this as I was reading through this thread.

If these 2 scum are allowed to profit from books, interviews, etc, this story will live a whole longer than it already has.

It will be hard enough for these boys to move on as it stands now, and will be worse, if every time they turn on the TV or open a magazine or newspaper and see it continuing.

I predict that both will file Bankruptcy before the first of the year. That is likely to wipe out their prior debts, including the claims of these three guys. Write it down.

Although the Constitution doesn't explicitly require that indictments be backed by oath or affirmation (as is required for search warrants), I see no reason why grand juries shouldn't require it. Though of course, courts have routinely ignored the "oath or affirmation" requirement for warrants anyway.

A successful suit against CGM, even if it didn't net any money, would also prove pretty well that the boys were absolutely 100% innocent.

Well, are you going to keep the identity of the vicious, PC, POS a secret, or what?

"Well, are you going to keep the identity of the vicious, PC, POS a secret, or what?"

Uh, yup! If it had any direct connection to this case I would certainly go to the lawyers for these families. However, the info I have is on a FORMER Duke POS, I have already had a serious confrontation with said POS such that all superiors were well aware of the problems there, and the creature was forced out (but managed to land at yet another college). It has cost me enough grief in one lifetime to deal with said POS and I'm done with it! :^(
