Another Bush Moment You Won't See In The MSM
Hinzsight Report ^ | March 2, 2007 | Dave Hinz

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:42:37 AM PDT by yoe

I would like to thank the Anchoress for pointing out this photo from the Daily Mail of President Bush aiding Robert Byrd to his seat at the ceremony for the awarding of a congressional Gold Medal to the Tuskegee airmen who served our country so nobly during WWII.

George W Bush is the President of the United States, not an usher. Robert Byrd is a former Ku Klux Klan member-turned elder statesman of the US Senate, a Democrat who has said that the President lied about the reasons for invading Iraq. “Eventually, the truth will emerge. And when it does, this house of cards, built of deceit, will fall.”

So why then did this President take the time and trouble to take the hand of his political enemy, a man who has said, “We have heard a lot about revisionist history from the White House of late in answer to those who question whether there was a real threat from Iraq. But, it is the President who appears to me to be intent on revising history.”

Why would this President show such deference and respect to a man who has suggested that he, the President, has been guilty of impeachable offenses?

The answer is as simple as the humility of this President. He took the hand of Robert Byrd, to help him into his seat, because Byrd is approaching 90 years of age, and this President is respectful of his elders. He took his hand because he needed help, and this President is not the type of person to turn his back on a fellow human being in need. He took his hand as an act of friendship, because this President does not take his politics personally. He understands that his political enemies are not his personal enemies.

President Bush has a lot of class. In this case, much more than I would

I know we don’t all agree on the President’s tenure in office...but he has kept this nation safe since 9/11 and in my estimation, has earned his place in heaven many times over...given the man he helps in this picture has placed an evil omen on our President and his administration! I seem to remember something in the bible about this situation??

History is going to prove Bush right about the Middle East.

Unfortunately it will take Historians because today’s “journalists” are on a Hate Bush jihad.

That appears to be Harry Reid on the other side of "Mr. N word".

Bush made a serious mistake when he started the "new tone in Washington" garbage. He continued to make more mistakes by having Ted Kennedy over for movies and popcorn, etc.

Bush reminds me of the religious nutcases that dance with rattle snakes then seem to not understand that a snake is a snake and it can kill you. He takes bite after bite from the snakes and can't seem to figure out why they keep biting him.

Under normal circumstances this picture would be one of grace. But I'd prefer he do his job as a Republican President instead of submitting to these rats. Under the current circumstances of the rat party being nothing more or less than Bush-bashing, socialist, troop-hating, American-hating subversives, this picture of the President holding hands and escorting an elderly, unrepentent, hateful biggot like "sheets" Byrd doesn't make me smile.

Personally I don’t see the fuss. It would be perfectly natural to help an old guy like that. People act as if it were Jesus offering himself on the cross. It’s just a younger man helping an old man.

It’s because Bush doesn’t live up to his oath, instead giving aid and comfort to domestic enemies of the U.S. Constitution.

Only on today’s FR would you get slammed for posting this.

It’s a very human moment and the President is being compassionate.

Thank you for posting.

yoe, it is a wonderful picture and The Anchoress has equally wonderful thoughts about our President and his Christianity.

Even she, like us, feels frustration when they kick him in the teeth over and over and he appears to just shrug it off. I think she has some insight into why and into just how hard that is to do.

Thanks for the post.

THE ANCHORESS has done it again . . . Using this photo as inspiration, she has written the definitive analysis of President George W Bush, capturing the absolute essence of the man . . The analysis is so beautifully written and inspiring that it actually brought tears to my eyes!!

THE PRESIDENT OF ALL THE PEOPLE
By The Anchoress

“That picture of Bush with Byrd reminds me that he is - in his own mind, if not in yours - THE PRESIDENT OF ALL THE PEOPLE, DETERMINED TO SERVE YOUR SAFETY, YOUR INFRASTRUCTURE, YOUR ECONOMY AND YOUR FUTURE, EVEN IF YOU WOULD RATHER HE DID NOT. EVEN IF YOU WISH HE WERE DEAD. Even if you call him names. Even if you try to destroy his presidency and take him down. Even if you do all that from his own party and not from the “opposition” side.

This president will not return in kind. He hasn’t in six years, no matter how rude others have been.

. . . President Bush drives us crazy. We want him to fight back. He won’t. We want him to “save” himself. He won’t. He won’t “save” his presidency, either. He won’t “save” his party. He won’t “save” his legacy.

President Bush is doing what is unthinkable - he is staying true to the task laid out before him, to serve all the people. He is remaining faithful to that and he is counting on his God to do the rest, as his God has promised.

This is remarkable witness.

In an era when every special-interest group demands satisfaction for real or imagined “slights,” when Christians try to insist upon respectfulness from the arts, and radical Islamists demand blood or force conversions for any perceived “insult,” THIS CHRISTIAN MAN STANDS BEFORE THE WORLD AND INSISTS ONLY THAT THE COURSE OF LIBERTY BE PURSUED AND THAT HE BE ALLOWED TO PROTECT THE SAFETY, RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF HIS CITIZENS. He does not insist that you treat him well. Quite the opposite. He looks at something you can’t see and he allows you to say anything about him you want to, and he holds fast to a promise.

. . . In the face of that upside-down disorientation that says “good” is “bad” and “truthiness” is enough, President Bush gets up every day and keeps going, and remains steadfast, and lets you hate him all you want. And if you stumble in his line of vision he will not step around you. And if you’re old and feeble, he will help you walk.

Yes, this is remarkable witness. How many of us would be capable of doing the same?”

I like this picture and what it says about the President. Never mind the naysayers here - some of the crowd is a mite bitter at the moment.

Senator Bird has flaws. He could have disagreed with the decision to invade Iraq without personal attacks on the Presiodent. He didn’t just criticize the plan, calling it “blind and improvident” he called the President a “child of wealth and privilege.”

But I do have to admire the way Senator Bird is able to separate the issues if not the personalities.

For example he was able to be honest and vocal in his support of Justice Roberts in spite of a series of policy disagreements with the President.

When the President is criticized for being soft by conservatives, sometimes he is instead showing his ability to separate between personalities and policies or to examine each policy on its on merits instead of blindly agreeing with his “side.”

"I seem to remember something in the bible about this situation??"

You are correct:

Matthew 5:43-45
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust."

and...

Romans 12:19-21
19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 Therefore “ If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Not sure if it’s really newsworthy, unless we’re going for that, “And before we signoff, a heartwarming image/story/whatever.”

It’d make for a nice lil’ feature, though. Be it on the Network News or the Cable ones.
