Giuliani stands by support of publicly-funded abortions
CNN ^ | 4/4/07 | Staff

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (CNN) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN Wednesday he supports public funding for some abortions, a position he advocated as mayor and one that will likely put the GOP presidential candidate at odds with social conservatives in his party.

"Ultimately, it's a constitutional right, and therefore if it's a constitutional right, ultimately, even if you do it on a state by state basis, you have to make sure people are protected," Giuliani said in an interview with CNN's Dana Bash in Florida's capital city.

-

Giuliani also vowed to appoint conservative judges to the bench, though denied such a promise was a "wink and a nod" to conservatives in support of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.

"A strict constructionist judge can come to either conclusion about Roe against Wade," he said. "They can look at it and say, 'Wrongly decided thirty years ago, whatever it is, we'll over turn it.' [Or] they can look at it and say, 'It has been the law for this period of time, therefore we are going to respect the precedent.' Conservatives can come to that conclusion as well. I would leave it up to them. I would not have a litmus test on that."

I am not doubting at all the Giuliani will be a great leader in this war on terror, the most important issue we are facing, and without any doubt. However Fred Thompson and many other Republican candidate will be also great leaders to fight the war on terror.

Fred Thompson is more Conservative and more Republican than Rudy Giuliani and he is very popular among conservatives, if he runs he will win the Republican primaries and will win the Presidency.

PS: Giuliani will also win the Presidency if he ends up being the Republican nominee.

Really? Well how many of those “liberal views” translated into liberal governance?

Tons. Can you name me another state that got gay marriage, an assault weapons ban, socialized medicine and the total homosexualization of the public schools since 2002 like MA did under Romney? Can you name me another Republican Governor who appointed more Dems and indies to the courts than Republicans?

How the heck is the Governor of Massachusetts supposed to stop abortion in a state where 85% of the legislature is controlled by Democrats who will veto any attempt to curtail it?

He vetoed every bill pertaining to abortion that hit his desk...and his vetoes were overturned.

Frustrating to say the least. Heck, the previous 2 Republican governors were much more socially liberal than Romney and they flat-out resigned mid-term...probably out of frustration.

What in the heck are you talking about? Romney didn't want to stop it. Until he wanted to be President, he was not only pro-abortion, he was VEHEMENTLY pro-abortion.

Mitt fiercely defends his pro-abortion credentials

No doubt, but I am not doubting his electability as a President, as I told you he will win the Presidency if he is the Republican nominee, but I have great doubt that he will win the Republican primaries if Fred Thompson runs, and as I said in an earlier post Fred Thompson will also win the Presidency.

Force 'em to override it. That's the executive's duty.

But, in most cases, that wasn't even a question, because Romney was signing the stuff anyway. Socialized medicine, the permanent 'assault weapons' ban, etc.

“Rudy is not a liberal”
Well I see you can not spot them.. here is some help.

“That’s a liberal” (Parody of amore’ of course)

When a man take you guns,
and says cross dressings fun.
That’s a liberal.

When he says we should pay,
for abortions each day.
That’s a liberal

Freepers ping
Gu-li-ani things
Gu-li-ani things
But he surely will “Nail You”.

You will pay
for e-lect-ion day
for e-lect-ion day
To the RINO you sell to.

When he’s in a parade,
and they’re proud to be Gay.
That’s a Liberal.

And when his dress size,
is same as his wives.
That’s just sad.

When the press starts to swoon,
like he just hung the moon.
That’s a liberal.

‘Scuse me pal, shallow Hal?
If he’s friends with NARAL,
That’s a liberal.

don't bother trying to reason with EV. his language is 'disingenuous histrionics'.

his·tri·on·ics (hstr-nks) n. 2. (used with a sing. or pl. verb) Exaggerated emotional behavior calculated for effect.

Can you name me one piece of legislation that Romney signed (rather than vetoed) that led to state-approved gay marriage, “homosexualization” of public schools, and increased availability of abortions?

Cellucci appointed many more Democrats to the courts than Romney.

gee, i wonder why so many threads that have nothing to do with Romney end up with EV turning on full-on assault mode against Romney?

strange.
