What I would dread would be how DC would become packed with Mormon appointees and staff, and the LDS church, with its very business-like approach, would definitely take this opportunity to propogate the biggest PR campaign in the history of religion in the USA. It would alter the Republican party for a very long time.

Mormonism like any other non-Christian religion is all about working your way up—an attempt properly labeled “legalism.” Legalist religionists were the worst enemies Jesus Christ had, and the ones that yelled the loudest, “Crucify Him!” according to the gospels. Romney may be a great guy, and a great example of a family man—however he should never be president.

One more thing: Did you know the founding of the Republican Party in the 1850s was based on 2 moral issues?

1) The abolition of slavery.
2) The abolition of Mormon polygamy.

Not until the 1890 did the mainline LDS ban polygamy, and this only because Utah was not allowed to become a state unless they did. 1890 is NOT very long ago in history folks.

We won’t discuss how it was not until the mid 1970s that African-Americans were allowed to be LDS elders either.

For the GOP to nominate an LDS candidate would be to turn its back on its roots.

I don’t think he is a great man or a great family guy.

What has he done that is great? His family and church ties have gotten him his money and influence, and as for a “great” family man, we just don’t have enough information to know that.

I know you were just suggesting that he might be those things, but we really don’t know.

What do we know now, though? He has fully funded Planned Parenthood, gay-agenda groups, and he is pro-embryonic stem cell abortion, etc.

Er, you might be a little late on that one. Just take the Outer Loop from Georgia Ave to Connecticut Ave, then head on over to Marriott HQ in Bethesda.

Didn't happen in Massachusetts.

>>Mormonism like any other non-Christian religion

Who made you the arbiter of my soul?

Why do you sit in judgment on millions of people?

Jesus Christ is my judge and you are not Jesus Christ.

Jesus specifically commanded for his followers not to judge others.

Reagan already did this. He had pretty good judgement.

Mormonism like any other non-Christian religion is all about working your way up—

The priesthood in the LDS Church receives no pay.

Bishops serve for a period of 5 years and then are released.

Stake Presidents serve for a period of 10 years and then are released.

Our former Stake President was called as a Sunday School Teacher when he was released.

Members of the 70s Quorums serve from 5 to 15 years and then are released.

There is not a progression from one to the other.

Our former Stake President was never a Bishop.

Being in one office does not give you a leg-up on any other office.

In all cases, there is no pay, or even expenses paid to those who serve in the various offices.
