Statement from North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper on the Duke University lacrosse rape case. Good afternoon, everyone.

On Jan. 13 of this year, I accepted the request of the Durham district attorney to take over three Durham cases. At the time, I promised a fresh and thorough review of the facts and a decision on the best way to proceed.

Very good point. Rest assured that defence lawyers are already looking into that issue.

Looks to me from the statement that he bitch slapped nifong in his presser.

Nifong should have been bitchslapped a long time ago. Like, before he was re-elected.

Well, I’m hoping the Atty general starts a civil rights investigation and prosecutes nifong to the fullest extent. He should be made destitute, and his family should suffer as these families were made to suffer by his criminal actions. As you can see, I’m not a very forgiving man.

They say that due to her mental problems, she really believes the various stories she told.

So what? They said the same thing about Komrade Herr Klintoon, and he was found to hve lied under oath.

We should make an example of her. And Nifong too.

I hope that at the very least, both of them will be targets of civil suits by the lacrosse players. But they should still be prosecuted.

Does this mean she doesn’t get her scholarship from the Rev Jackson?

No, she'll still get it, or she should. She did what Jessuh wanted her to do -- ruin some white kids. She has done her part to advance his dream of a society in which white folk are second-class citizens, now he owes her what he promised.

Ah, irony. Imus is railroaded for a stupid joke that is on par with or less offensive than what is commonplace in hip-hop.

As Snoop Dogg pointed out (right for the first time in his life), when the rappers talk about hos they mean hos. Not the kind of girls who play basketball for Rutgers. This Mangum girl looks like the type of woman Snoop and the rest of that vile crowd are talking about, not the Rutgers basketball type.

Neither am I. I also believe the Durham newspaper has some explaining to do, as to why they took the words of some left-winged scumbag who had these boys tagged guilty from the get go, destroyed the rest of their lives, and got a coach fired.

Correct.  Here's a portion of his statement:

"It's a completely different scenario. [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hos that's in the 'hood that ain't doing (bleep), that's trying to get a (bleep) for his money. These are two separate things."

Yeah. In fact, for the first time, I saw a picture of the stripper on TV, and she fits the description to a tee.

Shep’s still on a roll. This time, I frighteningly find myself agreeing with him! Scary.

Thanks, I thought it was just me.

My take:

The attempt at humor contrasted the pervasive reference to ALL women as bitches and hoes with the obvious inappropriate use in this case. Had he jokingly referred to Condi Rice this way, I doubt we’d be discussing this now, but the same contrast would have been made. My feeling is that aiming his joke at these kids was creepy because they were not public figures in the sense that Condi is.

As Jason Whitlock wrote in the KC Star:

“We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent.

Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves.

It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud.”

This joke was undoubtedly in poor taste, but the attitude it lampooned, that of degrading young black women is, I really doubt, something Imus supports. He was trying to show how stupid that attitude is. Unfortunately for him, no one got the joke.

I have even hired male strippers for a bachelorette party. You want to stone me? ... Nor does it give people like you, and you are not alone, the right to state these men should go to jail for something

??? Nothing I wrote suggested anything of the sort.

You need to publically apologise to these men. Or go to hades.

Since your reply appears to have little or nothing to do with what I wrote, one of two things must be true. Either you meant to respond to someone else's post, or it's easily the silliest mindless rant I've read in a very long time.

If you have a problem with something I wrote, quote it, make your relevant points, and I'll be happy to reason with you. Otherwise, if it's not a debate but a raging cat fight/pissing match you're looking for, keep on looking.

“There was mention of “records under seal”...wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve got some psychiatric evaluations there that paint Crystal Gail Mangum as a pretty screwed-up young woman.”

I would think that her chosen career path would be adequate evidence that she is “pretty screwed-up”. Who in their right mind and any self-respect at all would go in to a bunch of young guys and strip off their clothes? I realize that this has been going on forever but you still have to have a screw loose to do this type of thing.
