Nifong Issues Apology to Ex-Lacrosse Players

Posted: 2 minutes ago

Durham — The local prosecutor who charged three Duke lacrosse players with raping a stripper apologized Thursday, acknowledging the decision of state prosecutors to dismiss all charges against them was correct.

"To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused," Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong said in a statement.

I want a press conference! You remember how Nifong held one every other day at the beginning of this hoax.

“To the extent that I made judgments that ultimately proved to be incorrect, I apologize to the three students that were wrongly accused,”
More meaningless words advanced as a so-called apology.

You’re toast, Nifong.

I agree. I read that quote and it does not even sound like an apology. He should have said. “I am sorry for falsely accusing three innocent lacrosse players of rape and kidnapping and subjecting them to a possible thirty year sentence in prison. It was wrong of me to inflame the local community into a racist pitch seeking vengeance against white males. I did this for my own personal aggrandizement. I am ashamed and what I did. I am not fit to hold public office or practice law. I am resigning immediately. I will fully cooperate with the State Bar investigating committee. I will accept any punishment they deem fit to administer.” That is an apology.

Much worse than the belated apology, is the uncertainty with which future trials will be viewed. Any indictment handed down by a grand jury, and the vigorous prosecution of those indicted, will only lead to much greater suspicion of the DA’s motivation now than ever in the past. Real perps will benefit by having a public much less disposed to acting on the say-so of an overly ambitious district attorney.

District attorneys do not prosecute every crime for which an indictment is passed down on by a grand jury. They pick and choose which ones they will prosecute, and on the rest, they bargain. The bargaining began much too late on this one. Now, everybody suspects the credibility of all district attorneys.

Dear Sissy,

You have besmirched my character by comparing me to Nifong. If you do it again you will hear from my lawyers.

Sincerely,

Pig Doo Doo

Ditto, WH. Let’s parse this Clintonian masterpiece a little more:

“”To the extent””: ie: Plenty of room here to argue just how much is my fault. Not exactly “the buck stops here”.

“judgments”: I was actually exercising judgment: rational, fair analysis of the facts with the objective of serving truth and justice. Not doing any of this for political expediency or part of my re-election effort. Not at all.

“that ultimately proved”: Ultimately, but at the time my totally naked self promotion seemed like a good idea in the public interest.

“to be incorrect”: incorrect sounds so innocent doesn’t it? especially when compared to stupid, venal, loathsome, immoral and disgusting

“I apologize to the three students”: they only had names when they were indicted. Now they are the “three students”

“that were wrongly accused,”: as you so well put it, passive. Happened by deus ex machina.

“Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong”: Should be inmate Nifong, disgraced/ful former DA, Durham County,

“said in a statement.”: Notice how, when he was riding this publicity stunt for all it was worth, he was quite happy to do everything by press conference. When it comes to demonstrating the sincerity of his sentiment and the gravity of the harm he caused, the slimeball issues a statement.

For people discussing monetary responsibility: there are several possible scenarios and others have posted about whether Nifong will have immunity or not. Rest assured, though that the people of NC are going to get stuck with a big tab when this is all done and I hope it will bring them to their senses when choosing their next DA for Durham County.

Agree...but how?

Withholding contributions to the college would definitely be an attention grabber....money talks.

But what else can be done....?

It may be, over time, the college will realize it's losing topnotch students who have decided to go elsewhere...

..I'm thinking slowly, but surely, these liberal teachers will feel the effect/heat of their actions.

That's a remarkably feminine Nifong signature on the press release too. Ick.

post 132, the whole statement

CYA, wild finger pointing, whining and dodging in every direction to try to deflect responsibility.

It’s true. It was discussed on CourtTV and elsewhere that it bordered on an illegal photo lineup. Nifong should lose his license for a lot of things, including this.

He never even met with the accuser until months later, but somehow he felt perfectly comfortable condemning those young men without even talking to the stripper.

Normally I forgive but...I wouldn’t touch his apology with a ten foot pole. He is NOT to be trusted. he was willing to sell innocent young men down the river in defense of a woman who falsely accused them just so he could garner more votes. This man is NOT to be trusted. His lack of character is obvious. His lack of honesty is obvious. His lack of decency is MORE THAN OBVIOUS. His lack of being able to be a real man in the face of what happened is even MORE OBVIOUS. He needs to be fired. How long did it take HIM to apologize to the young men accused? He is a disgrace and not fit for public office. They need to fire him just like they fired Imus or anyone else who did or didn’t do something. The double standard has to stop and stop now!!!

Nifong is like the French official in Casablanca after gambling was found in Rick’s backroom, shocked, Shocked, SHOCKED that Mangum lied to him. This is a transparent attempt to pretend he believed Mangum rather than did this for political gain. Nobody will believe this.

Key words here: "To the extent that I..." "I apologize".

He isn't apologizing for going after them, he's apologizing for what we have yet to learn in his upcoming hearings.

Basically, it amounts to the same type of "caveating" the Duke 88 made: I was right but I got caught in my "intent."

Even so, he's made more a stance than the MSM or Duke or the NAACP, ad nauseum has.

In his apology, he is supporting the SAG, Mr. Cooper.

And I hope Broverman, ad nauseum Miss Khanna comprehend, the more they seek to re-ignite this case and their pet liberal agenda issues, they do not harm the Duke players, but will be harming themselves, academics, minorities, women, Crystal, most of all.

Yes it is true. We discussed it a length last summer. Only the WHITE lacrosse players.

That was the third photo lineup. In the first two she couldn't pick anyone so they showed her the third lineup with only Duke Lacrosse players guaranteeing anyone she picked out would be a Duke Lacrosse Player.

Moreover, this third lineup took place the day after Nifong received DNA results showing none of the Duke players matched.

He’s not apologizing for the fact that they were wrongfully accused. His apology is for any judgments he made that may have been incorrect.
