O'Reilly Sells Out to Sharpton
Accuracy In Media ^ | 4/13/07 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 04/15/2007 2:31:56 PM PDT by ricoshea

Sharpton, labeled a "public liar and racial arsonist" in a devastating piece by John Perazzo on Frontpagemag.com, has an enabler named Bill O'Reilly. Watchers of "The Factor" may be interested to know that O'Reilly is paying homage to Sharpton at the civil rights agitator's upcoming national convention. Indeed, O'Reilly himself is an honored guest.

I knew something was suspicious when I was watching O'Reilly interview Sharpton on Wednesday night. I was very disappointed that O'Reilly, who can be aggressive with some guests, did not bring up Sharpton's conviction for lying in the Tawana Brawley defamation case. But then I watched a replay of the interview and noticed a brief exchange in which Sharpton mentioned how O'Reilly had been invited to his upcoming National Action Network Convention. I had missed this exchange when I watched it live because both of them were almost talking over one another, congratulating themselves for being concerned about the influence of rap music. It was then that I heard O'Reilly mutter that he would be attending the event, sponsored by Sharpton.

I soon discovered that O'Reilly, the most popular host on the "conservative" Fox News Channel, is listed in the official program, along with Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, as a "special guest" at the "Keeper of the Dream VIP Reception" that is by "invitation only."

Yea... I was VERY disappointed when I listened to his radio show last week and he described Sharpton as “a friend of the factor.”

Here I thought O’Reilly was a smart guy and that he knew where the moral high ground was.

Instead, he likes to dip into the gutter that is Sharpton.

Hannity said he is debating the Rev on Friday at the same event. How nice.

That thought should have abated when O'Reilly publicly condemned the Swift Boat Veterans and said they had no right to say what they had to say.

I don’t understand why O’Reilly sucks up to Sharpton.
Sharpton is a hypocritical and deceitful maggot.

Hannity debating Sharptongue?

How quaint.

The Donkeys won’t even debate in a Fox-sponsored milieu, because they claim it would give Fox legitimacy and credibility.

Why in the world would anybody want to talk to this race-bating hate monger, as though he han anything of any import to say, thereby lending legitimacy and credibility to him.

He should be shunned and ignored as though he were a non-person. It’s the fastest and best way to disarm him.

Because, well — O”Reilly is a hypocritical and deceitful maggot.

Any other questions?

Not surprising, given his obvious desire for nanny-state controls of the media.

The seemingly disparate views of Lou Dobbs, BOR, John Edwards, Ross Perot, Hugo Chávez, Jim Webb, Tommy Douglas, Noam Chomsky, and (at times - the guy is mercurial!) Pat Buchanan all have one common theme.

They all embrace different flavors of populism at their core, whether they are proponents of the Christian Democracy movement, Communitarianism, Christian socialism, Producerism, National Socialism, third-way socialism, or some other ism.

It is not entirely accurate to think of each in terms of only left/right - for example, though BOR may side will conservatives on a few issues, he is not a modern conservative.

Fox is a media business and this development says a lot - it says that one media organization cannot fight a whole country that has shifted over to the left and wants to experiment with the dangerous drug called liberalism. How do you counter mass emotional irrationality in a capitalist democracy - do you just give up like O’Reilly?

I believe you answered your own qiestion
Bill O’Reilly is also a hypocritical and deceitful maggot.

He merely saw a hole open for a semi-conservative on the Fox channel and filled it.
IMO he is a closet liberal.

O’Reilly is a pragmatic populist. He is in it for the money, and the fame.....not as a conservative. He had Whorealdo on the ropes last week, and walked away. He went against the Swift Boat veterans in order to keep liberals watching him. No honor with Big O !!

The great irony is that Imus used to suck up to Sharpton.

O’Reilly seems to have a celebrity fixation .. he’s brutal with non-celebs, but always, always, always is deferrential to celebs. Yet, who made Sharpton a celebrity? The media!

What did Sharpton ever do that was worthwhile or really advanced the cause of African-Americans ? At least Jackson really was a civil rights leader. I don’t recall Sharpton in Selma or elsewhere in the region when there was risk involved, but maybe I’m wrong?

We need to ignore that recycled, old rabble-rousing method directed at idiots. We need to implement solutions. Put real pressure on the IMF to change its anti-American, high-dollar international trade policies. If that doesn’t work very quickly, start up the taxes and tariffs on overseas imports and imports from south of the southern border (not to include Canada, which is not a cheap labor or expensive culture/language assimilation problem).

Falling for propaganda about and from celebrities to further balkanize us is European, PC, effeminate and left/liberal. A more productive, domestically competitive America and support of traditional family (in all economic levels) are far more conservative aspirations.

Shut up, BO. Shut up, Imus. Don’t listen to Jackson and Sharpton: useful idiots of libertine, selfish, corporate sponsors, who pay to disseminate their false opinions disguised as “news.” ...crooks.

MediaMatters is watching Bill. He really needs to be on his best politically correct behavior so he makes nice to Sharpton.
