I love how the media can’t mention his name without “firey” or “firebrand” in front of it.

Government officials in Iran are continuing to push US democrats to break with Bush and visit their terror regime.
Iranian MP Soheila Jelodarzadeh spoke out today about a possible visit by Speaker Pelosi to Tehran.
Mehr News reported:
Senior U.S. lawmaker Tom Lantos, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee and accompanied Pelosi when she visited Syria, recently said he thought Pelosi might be willing to make a trip to Tehran. “Speaking for myself, Im ready to go — and knowing the speaker, I think that she might be,” the San Francisco Chronicle quoted him as saying.
On Sunday, MP Soheila Jelodarzadeh said, “Even if Pelosis statements are only meant to promote the Democrats political interests, one should make use of this opportunity.”

Britain stops using phrase ‘war on terror’
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
The British government has stopped using the phrase “war on terror” to refer to the struggle against political and religious violence, a Cabinet minister was to say Monday.
International Development Secretary Hilary Benn, a rising star of the governing Labour Party, says in a speech prepared for delivery in New York that the expression popularized by US President George W. Bush after the Sept. 11 attacks strengthens terrorists by making them feel part of a bigger struggle.
Extracts from Benn’s speech at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation were released by his office.
“We do not use the phrase ‘war on terror’ because we can’t win by military means alone, and because this isn’t us against one organized enemy with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives,” Benn said.

Well this is just hilarious. I’ve been looking for some report on the Olmert/Abbas meeting and this is the upshot.
Olmert, Abbas to hold next meeting in West Bank
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas agreed Sunday to hold their next meeting in the West Bank - in what would be their first get together in a Palestinian town.
“They have agreed to hold their next meeting in Jericho,” said Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, who participated in Sunday’s session.
Olmert’s spokeswoman, Miri Eisin, said the next meeting would “probably” be in Jericho.
Under prodding by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Olmert and Abbas have agreed to meet every two weeks in hopes of paving the way for formal peace talks.

BBC journalist’s family appeals to captors to ‘end this ordeal’
By Avi Issacharoff, Haaretz Correspondent and The Associated Press
The family of British journalist Alan Johnston, who was kidnapped in the Gaza Strip over a month ago, pleaded Monday for his captors to end this ordeal, following unconfirmed reports he has been executed.
“We make a heartfelt appeal to anybody who may have knowledge of Alan’s situation and well-being to contact the authorities in Gaza,” they said.
“Our son has lived and worked amongst the people of Gaza for the last three years to bring their story to the outside world and we ask every one of them to help end this ordeal.”
On Sunday, Palestinian security sources discredited claims by a previously unknown group of Palestinian militants that said it had executed the BBC reporter.

Gaddafi discredits Saudi initiative, ridicules leaders behind it
By Reuters and Haaretz Service
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Sunday said the Saudi proposal to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was doomed to fail because the Arab leaders behind it were “half-wits.”
“Arab leaders have no credibility. These Arab leaders are poor half-wits and no one would take them seriously,” he told supporters gathered at his home in Tripoli.
Gaddafi said Israel would not accept the initiative, first launched in 2002.

I don’t recall when that particular “war” was started. I briefly saw our current drug czar the other day citing statistics on how well we are doing.
Yup, right.
” War on Drugs hasnt exactly panned out too well. “
Sure it has — now we have “no knock” (and sometimes warrentless) searches, and confiscation of property without due process...
Not to mention the all-to-frequent invasion (often resulting in death or serious injury) of the homes of innocents by hooded and body-armored thugs.
It also, as a minor side-benefit, has pretty well destroyed the ‘presumption of innocence’.
If your purpose is to erode the principles of property and privacy, then the “War on Drugs” (sic) has worked WONDERFULLY!!!
