The way kids are today (and their behavior proves them still “kids”, not adults), perhaps we should move it BACK to 21. (Let’s recall it WAS higher, please - funny, in days when men behaved like men at the age of 15.)

After all, if you’re all for “rights”, then you should not object to there being no age limit on voting. Why not go all the way? Any child that can and wants to vote should be allowed to.

Good point about the security. Then let’s add security at the entrances to their campi. Most do have campus police, though.

And as so many are wont to ignore, please note I do think other adults working on campus should be allowed. I know, probably not good enough, but then, why is just security personnel at defense plants and so on good enough?

those were the facts at issue in that case. unless you think the 2A right also extends to non-citizen palestinian immigrants with no resident status or background checks.

That was not the information at hand. Giuliani's first instinct in immediate response to the terrorist incident was to call for broadly applied national gun control. Period. Your spin is inaccurate and just plain stupid.

A 9mm *is* a major caliber and it is a killer; part of the reason the SAS loves their Browning High Powers. I suspect that most of those fatalities were due to blood loss and shock, though, not instant fatalities.

Right. I'm not implying 9mm isn't a lethal caliber it's just that I think it's harder to kill with one when used indiscrminantly than, say, a 7.62.

I also think that if backed up against a wall it would be easier to make a decision to rush the shooter who is holding two pistols than a AK. Psychologically.

9mm is good for killing europeans. For dangerous people, use a 45 ;)

Sorry, but I have to defend the people on the other planes. All the terrorists were in the cabin on flight 93. That was not the case on the other planes.
What do you base that assertion on? From what I have read the passengers did in fact have to overcome hijackers muscle to get to the door.

If it was a rampage, it was a pretty damn efficient rampage.

I don't think he was discussing gun laws. He is was discussing campus rules.

The Constitution still applies to campus rules. Va Tech is a government school.

"Which means he told someone who lived to tell about it. Initial reports are almost always wrong..."

There was the initial report of one fatality in the early shooting and another report that the initial confrontation was with a girlfriend and the RA who tried to intervene. Is the girlfriend dead or the RA or both? If it is true that there was only one fatality then there would be one live witness or victim to the initial encounter.

Perhaps. Occam’s Razor and all.

However, there’s something about the story line that doesn’t pass the smell test.

It seems odd that having killed his girlfriend in the heat of passion, the perp could come up with a chillingly perfect plan to commit mass murder and acquire the means to do so, all in a two hour period when the campus was ostensibly locked down.

No matter. This could happen at any school, anywhere, and there but for the grace of God go we.

My prayers are with the families & friends of those killed and injured, and with the students & community of Blacksburg, who are no doubt shaken to the core by this. My daughter lives in Blacksburg and she is very rattled by this.

Re the identity of the shooter - the silence could make sense if the June 2006 bomber turned out to be the shooter. A) the police had him before and B) the campus knew of bomb threats.

So probably wouldn’t be so quick to release info until track down how that might have happened.

Of course, I am not saying it is definitely the same person - just trying to figure out what happened.

News saying it was a student of the school that did the shooting. Not an outsider.

This seems way too calculated to be the result of a lovers' quarrel.

The quarrel could have been about his plans for that morning.

This isn't making much sense, IMO. If he snapped just this morning at 7:15, then why was he so well-planned for today, as a whole? Or maybe he had a hunch his talk with his girlfriend wasn't going to go well this morning? ????? I don't know -- lots of questions.

In the recent mall shooting, the gunman dropped hints to his girlfriend the night before (IIRC). Maybe something like that happened here, only the girl figured out his intent and freaked out. At this point, who knows?

Seems to me that the initial shooting at 7AM was done as a decoy.

Get every available LEO on the opposite side of the campus....walk into a dorm 1 mile away...chain the doors (premeditation) and start killing people like fish in a barrel

Makes sense.

April is historically a bad month. I’ve always found that strange. Wars stop & start, people go postal, etc. Must by something in the spring air.

I noticed this in April 1996 when the Valu Jet crashed in the swamp. It was the 2d April in a row that a tragedy happened. The April before that, the OK City bombing happened. A few Aprils later came Columbine. Now this murder spree at Tech.

"You’re ridiculous."

Whatever chief.

"If you READ my post, perhaps you’d notice that I even said faculty, et al (RESPONSIBLE mature adults) should be allowed to carry."

I read your post. All the women I've known that were raped, killed, carjacked+ weren't faculty. They were students. I don't respect your judgment that 21y/os are not to be considered responsible adults. Nor do I respect your opinion that college students in general are irresponsible.

" It’s the TRUTH that courts and government building AND DEFENSE PLANTS, etc, have NO-WEAPONS rules, for damn good reason."

A defense plant is a target in itself. A school is an institution for learning and the targets are the folks that attend the institution, especially women. Your ability to analyze and compare the 2 situations is not very good. A school is no different than a mall, gas station, or home, since many of the students live there.

" I believe in total freedom with some logical, LOW-LEVEL exceptions. We’re not talking state-wide bans, here. Tiny areas."

There is nothing logical about banning the possession of guns on school grounds. If the person is 18 they right to own and possess a rifle, should not be infringed, same with a pistol if they're over 21. That's the way it had been prior to the '60s peace BS. That's when the right to have firearms in one's dorm and vehicle began to be infringed. Folks live at school. It is their home. There is no logical reason to infringe upon their rights, only emotional reasons. The only things that died when I had a gun on my dorm were squirrels and ducks. That's the way it has been traditionally until the grabber crowd began demonizing the gun and anyone who owns one.
