I still think that scanner catch about the police asking about a Mohammed something or other is very interesting.
Bet that gets buried.
When was that? Link please.

NO KIDDING!

The UW police are a bunch of morons...two different stories from the asst chief and chief, and the University failed to enact their own procedures. That got whitewashed too.

All you have then is a bunch of people milling around campus who haven't got the word.

No, you have people out of harm's way instead of being massed in classrooms like sitting ducks.

One of the smartest guys in all this was the professor who told his students to jump out the second floor windows. They may be bruised, but they're alive.

You may not understand the size of the campus you’re dealing with. I have no idea how many parking lots Tech has, but it’s got to be a lot—over half their undergrads are off-campus commuters and a lot of them drive. Then there’s the walkers, bikers, and the ones that ride Blacksburg Transit buses. Tech is a very wide-open campus with literally hundreds of entry points. You can’t secure them all. The most you could do is send people around to stick signs up on all the academic buildings, and try calling/emailing ALL the professors, classrooms, offices, and dorm rooms to get the word out. By the time you do that, it’s been at least two hours...hello, Norris Hall.

I understand what you’re saying, I just don’t know logistically how it’s possible on the scale you’d have to do it.

Incidentally, in order to properly maintain their sovereignty, should the People through militias be able to have tanks and aircraft? Surface to Air Missiles? Grenades? Because in order to properly challenge governmental authority they would need it.

Should we allow arms to be used in political assassination? What else would the right to bear arms be good for, if their purpose is to keep the power over the state?

And, BTW, if the shooter crossed the whole campus without being detected and chained the doors at Norris without being detected, the police could have put a cop at every building and it would have made no difference!!!!!!!!!!!

We only know the doors were chained, we don't know if they were chained by Campus security or if the shooter lugged chains and locks around the campus, along with his two 9 mm semi's and 100 rounds of ammo and several clips........

They did nothing further until 9:30 a.m.

I think the college President just said that they didn't send out the first e-mail until then. BEFORE that, they had contacted the Resident Assistants at the dorms to contact the students in the dorms. Of course, there are a lot of students who live off campus, and there's no way to contact all of them before they head to school. Frankly, I think it is unrealistic to expect the school to have responded any more quickly or efficiently than they did. The campus is like a city of over 20,000 residents.

Guess what? An FBI woman phoned the school, after first shooting, asked if school was in lockdown and asked if not, why not. They said we are buisy right now and hung up on the FBI woman. This came from FBI interview

Wait, wait. I heard this interview. This wasn't an FBI interview. The interview was with a woman, who used to be an FBI agent, whose daughter is a VT student. Her daughter called her, told her what was happening, and then the mother called security and wanted to know what was going on and if the campus was on lockdown. They said they were very busy and hung up. Former FBI agent, acting in her capacity as the mother of a student is very different than the FBI calling up and telling them to lockdown.

Nothing was done...nobody was notified—virginia tech and the virginia government should be sued into oblivion.

A horrible tragedy that will turn into a major catastrophe if the truth does not come out!

I have made no speculations at all, just commenting on the fact that you continue to name-call. Reasonable debate is the key — we leave the rest to the Dims.

Just because, in my opinon, the jilted lover angle seems weak doesn’t mean Islamic terrorism. This could be a guy that was mad at the world and like in other school shootings was just out for revenge for percieved slights.

I agree with you. It is, in fact, more plausible. I don't rule out jihadists ... I'm just waiting for facts, none of which exist yet. OTOH, experience has shown that the "cry jihad" contingent on these threads is much more frequently wrong than right.

Just damn! My dear friend Bunni who lives in VA just sent me an e-mail as she is keeping her phone lines open. She has many friends and family who have 14 kids unnacounted for at this time that were all Engineer students who took classes in the building where most of the casualties took place. All of the families are waiting but haven’t heard from anyone yet.

I hate to say it, but I fear the worst! One of the missing was the Valedictorian at the local high school last year.

If there is/was a girlfriend, there was maybe a restraining order or past history of violence against women. So far, crickets chirping. Lots of firepower to avenge being spurned. I don’t buy it.

A core part of the Conservative movement is individual rights and the main right that preserves all others is the right to carry a weapon.

Creating gun free zones without enforcing them with armed law enforcement creates a kill zone, not a safety zone.

But the presence of a gun creates, in and of itself, the danger of gunfire

It also creates, in and of itself, the possibility of self-defense if a deranged murderer decides to start shooting everybody in the area.

Consider that the office WAS busy at the time and didn’t need someone claiming to be an FBI agent asking the bleeding obvious. I’d be a little curt to a caller under those conditions, too. Proportion, people!
