Initial emergency care for a gunshot wound consists of direct pressure over the entrance/exit. Bare hand if need be.

My description was overly basic but would have kept most people alive. Traditionally it is airway, breathing, circulation (heart pumping as well as stopping bleeding). Assuming the person has an open airway, is breathing, and their heart is pumping, they can last quite a while even with major trauma.
