A rationalist version of the divine right of kings.

What??? I don't know how you reach that conclusion and I have to wonder if you even know what you are saying?

The Constitution's sole purpose is to prevent tyranny and protect the rights of individuals. The 'divine right of kings" was exactly what was on the minds of the framers and specifically what they were trying to prevent.

Now I'm sure that the original framers never imagined that 230 years later that someone would walk onto a college campus and use a hand gun he probably bought legally and kill almost 50 people, but I promise you they would apply the same solution, "arm the students".

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I will say "ditto". Just think...if some of these students/teachers had been armed themselves, the death toll would not be at 33 and possibly rising.
