Unusual Trip to Iraq in ’03 for Wolfowitz Companion
The New York Times ^ | 16 April 2007 | STEVEN R. WEISMAN and DAVID E. SANGER

WASHINGTON, April 16 — The Defense Department directed a private contractor in 2003 to hire Shaha Ali Riza, a World Bank employee and the companion of Paul D. Wolfowitz, then the deputy secretary of defense, to spend a month studying issues related to setting up a new government in Iraq, the contractor said Monday.

The contractor, Science Applications International Corporation, or SAIC, said that it had been directed to hire Ms. Riza by the office of the under secretary for policy. The head of that office at the time was Douglas J. Feith, who reported to Mr. Wolfowitz.

After her trip to Iraq, Ms. Riza briefed members of the executive board of the World Bank on efforts to rebuild after the American invasion and specifically on the status of Iraqi women, according to Ms. Riza’s supervisor at the time.

I wonder if she is still his “companion”?

I read she wasn’t. Wonder what the breakup was about. I’m sorry to read that she is being represented by Victoria Toensing, an attorney I admire. Guess Riza’s got a lot of money to pay her good, I don’t see any other reason for Toensing to waste her time on such a cheap little girl with a big appetite for money who can lead her boyfriend around by the nose.

GAP says the trip was unauthorized. Also, the report notes discomfort with the whole thing by the Bank staff and there are tons of ‘I don’t recalls’ among the neocons who seemed to be sponsoring her.

What bugs me is that this person is NOT EVEN a U.S. citizen and there she goes, waltzing into Iraq, calling the shots, making her recommendations about how the new government should be formed, no authority whatsoever except her political connections, setting up the pathetic miserable system of ‘democracy’ that is going on in Iraq today with Sadr practically running things and Maliki a clown and Chalaby a corrupt scumbag pocketing millions, and she’s secretly snickering about all the American suckers who are on ground dying for Iraq’s democracy. She must have looked very down on them, being stupid enough to fight the war while she pulled in her $200,000 salary or whatever it was at the time, god knows what she got paid on this, and called the shots. American troops were fighting and dying so that she could fashion Iraq in her unelected feminist fashion, leftist that she was. How do you like that little betrayal, that unearned right to reshape Iraq as Americans did all the fighting and dying. More and more, I am starting to see a Stab In The Back by all these neocons who are making millions while the Iraq war continues to spill American blood and treasure. It disgusts me. What right did that stupid woman have to go in there and form Iraq’s government? She contributed nothing except her bedroom skills.

How much you want to bet this is a Soros outfit?
Check out the Bd of Directors.
Then ask yourself, if you are charged with post-wat reconstruction and you want a leading expert on womens rights issues to make a presentation to the World Bank seeking assistance, who would you hire? Karen Hughes? LOL This is getting pathological.

Soros is bad news. Is the foundation for the future a soros outfit? Or is that Bank watch group the soros outfit? Or are they all soros outfits?

Scumbag has his fingers everywhere, i am watching two of his fronts in bolivia and colombia and in both, he wants drugs to run wild and those who fight drugs to be ruined. I hate him.

Are you talking about GAP? They definitely look like gamy leftists - I see ‘The Forum’ (that’s the est or esalen cult), the soviet-sponsored Institute for policy studies, the seiu commie-infested labor union, torts lawyers, the communist Mott Foundation.

The problem with these women’s rights types is that they have no idea what women want. especially not in the third world. i used to hang out with them in indonesia and know what they were like, the locals were right on the edge of muslim extremism, proudly wearing their headscarves because they said it prevented men from treating them like sex objects, and the expats were the usual sanctimonious types trying to shove abortion onto unwilling women in no-abortion cultures, totally unaware of the damage they were doing. I can’t stand feminists whose only belief is that to free women, it’s necessary to give them abortion. The prim western expat types were really like that. To heck with women’s rights - they evolve as a society needs them.

as a postscript - think of all the benighted societies, dumps like pakistan, that have perfect equal rights enshrined in their constitutions. Perfect ERA amendments, even affirmative action in congress. somehow, it never works out the way they write it out and there they go, deep in the land of barefoot and pregnant, not an equal right in sight save for the elite.

Like everybody is trying to get a free trip to Iraq?

What rule was broken? Is she not qualified to do this?

Nothing that the New York “Abu Gharib on the front page 46 times” Times should be taken at face value... they have an agenda.

The consulting firm did NOT hire her. It arranged for her and a number of others inside and outside th govt to assess democratic institution development in Afghanistan. She took leave from the Bank, went w.out salary and was paid NOTHING but her expenses on the trip. She then reported what she found to the Bank. The trip was organized with then WB president Wolfensohn .
