Vermont Senate Passes Bush, Cheney Impeachment Resolution
Fox News ^ | April 20, 2007

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont senators adopted a nonbinding resolution Friday seeking the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. With no debate, the Senate voted 16-9 in favor of the resolution, the ayes all coming from Democrats. Three Democrats and six Republicans voted against it. "I think it's going to have a tremendous political effect, a tremendous political effect on public discourse about what to do about this president," said impeachment supporter James Leas, a vocal advocate of withdrawing from Iraq and of impeaching Bush and Cheney. Lawmakers early in their session became the first to demand for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. But activists have been frustrated in their demands that the Legislature adopt another resolution calling for impeachment. Speaker Gaye Symington, D-Jericho, has ensured that a House impeachment resolution remains bottled up in the Judiciary Committee. She says an impeachment resolution would be partisan and divisive and that it would distract Washington from efforts to get the United States out of Iraq, which she says is more important. Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin, D-Windham, has said he supports impeachment, but was hamstrung because Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, a Republican who presides over the Senate, would likely bury a Senate resolution in committee. But Dubie was absent on Friday and, with Shumlin in charge, the resolution was immediately taken up as one of the Senate's first items of business and pushed through. Many senators were surprised it was being considered; there was no effort to derail it, though. "I think it's fantastic," Leas said. "This is a great achievement and Peter Shumlin deserved a lot of credit for listening to the people, listening to his conscience and taking action."

nonbinding

Nonbinding? What do you mean nonbinding. You mean the Vermont legislature doesn't have the authority to impeach the president of the United States? No kidding.

Let’s hope that that paper isn’t “binding”. Not sure what that would mean but it doesn’t sound good LOL.

We the People should impeach or recall any politician who votes for a NON-Binding resolution. It is a waste of time and taxpayer's money.

Besides that this whole thing is a laughable joke by left wing hate filled lunatics it is interesting to see how the liberals operate when they are in full control as in the case of Vermont: “No debate”. That is democracy at its best (extreme sarcasm).

My sister in law went with her husband to Vermont. They yelled at her for asking for yellow cheese.

She also brought back some maple syrup. Tasted like Aunt Jemima.

On what grounds, moonbats?!

That's the beauty of being a moonbat; you don't need a reason when you have an ideology.

Although leaning politically left these days New Hampshire Maple syrup is much better. (No the trees aren't learning left, just the politicians.)

No the trees aren't learning left

That should read "leaning", not "learning" although I understand there is considerable peer pressure amongst the maples.

Don’t venture West either. It is a abomination today in the state of Oregon. With the stroke of the pen of our “King” Gov. Kulongowski, we now have “gay marriage” in our state, even though we voted it down in the last election. I am screamin’ mad!!!! To hell with the voters in this state I guess. This is about the 4th time in the last 5 years that the legislature has ignored our mandates and have passed laws that are polar opposites. The South is the last place on earth were God is still revered. You are blessed to live there.
