REID FIRES BACK AT BUSH, GOP
MSNBC ^ | April 20, 2007 | Ken Strickland

Posted on 04/20/2007 1:59:46 PM PDT by Eagle of Liberty

Without acknowledging his comments yesterday when he said the "war is lost," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said President Bush and his allies "attacked those of us with courage to ask the tough questions and tell the truth about Iraq." He described their criticism of him and other Democrats as "an effort to shift attention from this Administration's failed policies" in Iraq.

In a remarks on the Senate floor after Bush's speech today, Reid did not repeat the "war is lost" comments. Instead, he said that "the longer we continue down the president's path the further we will be from responsibly ending this war." He repeated the sentiment two additional times in the speech and added, "but there is still a chance to change course and we must change course."

The President, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Republican Party must be pit bulls and not let go of this major statement made by Reid.

D*mn right! - The WH/RNC need to get WOT supporting 527s up and running. We need TV ads going after Reid and the DEM leadership. We need Ads touting the continuous successes in this WOT/Iraq.

We must go on the offensive against Reid and the DEM leadership!

“And did our spineless GOP even have the guts to boo him while he ranted?”

This bothers me almost as much as Reid’s comments. And why the hell isn’t the President ripping him a new one? Almost any other President would rip him right back, especially some of our greatest Presidents - Andrew Jackson, Reagan, Lincoln, etc.). I hope I am proven wrong, but a tepid response to Reid only helps to ensure that Bush will be considered a middle-of-the-road President.

I’m making some serious calls to the Senate Republicans starting Monday morning. This had better infuriate a very huge amount of people. I’m PO’d to the MAX.

Absolutely. If they won't stand up for themselves and the party why should we keep fighting.

Because it is OUR country too and OUR soldiers that are being denigrated by this sorry excuse for a Senator. I have NO problem standing up if these "leaders" from the Republican side won't do it. We have loaned them our power and delegated them to do a job and part of that job is to uphold the Constitution and sovereignty of the United States. If they lack the will to do that job, let them step aside. I believe that there are enough people on FR that could do a MUCH better job than our current list of "representatives".

Reid!
Hey Reid!
You are a pernicious, pusillanimous polyp!
So there!

I would not count on any action being done. Everyone was screaming for Nancy to have something, anything done to her and nothing was done. I hope nobody has high expectations that a thing will be done or there will be many disappointed FRiends on here.

A real President would call a press conference, focus the nation on his comments, denounce them, call for removal, and shoot up 20 pts in the polls. Instead we get donut hole. People wonder why his approval rating is in el toiletto.?.

I thought he said we couldn't win it militarily - i.e., no matter how much success our military has, no matter how many people we kill, no matter what security measures our forces put in place, it is not going to change the outcome for Iraq.

I don't know if that is true, or not. But it might be.

If we had to define the current "enemy" in Iraq, it would be hard to narrow it down any further than 'any Iraqi who wants to use violence to settle a score, strike a blow for his religion or ideology, make money, or simply to protect his family from threatening persons.' I'm not sure how you defeat that enemy militarily, without pretty much killing everyone there.

Believe me, I hate to have a defeatist attitude but what is wrong with the Republicans? Why are they so afraid to stand up to the Rats? We really need new blood in Congress. Returning Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers interested in politics would be perfect.

“Beyond description. Beyond words and belief....”

Agreed Agreed Agreed.

I am livid.

This is total madness.

The jihadists are now teaching children to behead human beings. And these lunatics wish to surrender and have us all buying carbon credits.

Never forget. Never forgive.

Courage!?!? You have to be kucking fidding me!! Oh, how courageous to vote to send our armed forces to war when it was viewed as politically expedient. But now that it is n longer politically expedient Dingy has the courage to cry havoc and let loose the dogs of defeat.

If a dem states he or she is being brave, bet they know deep down they are being cowardly.

"I predicted on today's live thread that Reid probably thinks he's "being brave."

I think Reid's courage must have been inspired by the way Alec Baldwin stood up to his daughter.

I just sent him the following love letter.....:

Senator, it takes no courage to give aid and comfort to our terrorist enemies as you seek to undermine our President for your selfish, political gain.

The fact is that you don’t give a damn about our country or the future of our freedom as long as you and your socialist cronies increase your grip.

There is no “attempt to shift attention” Senator, there is only an attempt to maintain our focus on the goal of victory against terrorism!

Those terrorists were in Iraq before we got there and they certainly haven’t shifted their attention from defeating us there and then following us home to continue their attacks on our civilization and our way of life.

Your behavior has only served to strengthen their cause and weaken America.

You are incapable of the only responsible action possible, which would be to apologize to the American people and then resign!

Sincerely,
...
