#7 (narrator) is usually promoted up to demo-flight status in his second year on the team. #7 does not necessarily go to #6, but to where he would fit best on the team. #5 and #6 are the solo’s which means that Davis was probably an above average stick.

I always thought Blue Angels only served for 2 years. So perhaps he replaced the former number 6 and was only going to serve as number 6 this one year?
