I just posted this but earlier I’ll move it to a more current thread

I don’t think it will be one of the dim leaders. I think it’s becoming clear that hillaries negatives are too high and the electorate won’t go for a lightweight like Obama.
Look for Gore to step in later this summer. “for the good of the party”. He will be able to unify the moonbat wing and the rank and file....the whole dim party. Also there will be no Nader. Remember he already won the poler vote acting like like a 2nd grade teacher. I watched 10 minutes of his movie last nite and though I disagree with it I was impressed how warm and polished he came off. He’s a LOT BETTER then he was in 2000.
He’s gonna be really tough to beat. I’m not sure Rudy...Thompson..or Romney can beat him. As for the rest of the Repub nominees....forgetaboutit.

I like all three of our guys.

What worries me about Romney is that he’s too slick by a half but I’m open.....

What worries me about Thompson (if he runs} does he have the fire to take on Gore? Also does he have the temperament to take on his own party? I worry that he could be another W. Say all the right things but be too much of a “good ol boy” and not be enough of a an asskicker to really slap around his former senate colleagues regarding earmarks...entitlement reform...tax reform...energy policy...the border...tort reform all the things that W with all three branches of government failed miserably on.
Though I’m also open.

Rudy does have that temperament. He slapped around the establishment in NYCity and it’s in his nature to do it again in Washington. I’m not worried about Rudy on the border the chaos down there should inflame his law and order sensibilities and I think he would clamp down. Currently he is the only one talking about are insane tax code and considering a flat tax....wonderful. He also brings up vouchers...great. He also talks about drilling in the gulf when all the other pols are worring about losing FLA...more great

That leaves guns and abortion that is judges. Rudy knows that to accomplish cleaning up our fiscal mess and waging war on our Islamic enemies not to mention holding off the dims and the MSM he will need the base including the socons firmly in his camp. I would expect him to give on those....

If he tried to pull something like nominating a Souter it would ignite a firestorm that would make the Miers pick look like nothing. He is not stupid enough to take on his own base when his plate will already be full.

If someone would like to discuss this with me instead of spamming me or insulting me I’d like that.

"discuss this with"

To me it looks like all you are doing is hoping Rudy will change from what he has been, a liberal. Heck, I know you have seen the info spiff, narses, flashbunny and others have posted.
Rudy's own words on abortion (taxpayer supported? Yeah, right)
Banning of guns.
Judge picks? Not when he thinks Ginsberg is an honest one.
Border issues? Made New York a sanctuary city for illegals. And so on. (do I really need to mention the homosexual agenda?) Only one issue, the WOT, he would be good on. The rest, he would work with the dims, to destroy this country. Not intentionally. Just with good intentions.

That may be the first intelligent Pro-Rudy post I've read.

That being said, I would rather vote for someone who I thought held my views consistantly, not just someone who sometimes said the right things when he needed to. I would like to vote with confidence for a change instead of with a hopeful grimmace.

Are you going to trash our conservative candidates in your misguided overzealous support of an abortionist, homosexualist, gun grabbing, illegal alien supporting liberal?

Your #200 is a good post, Blackirish, and is a reminder of the posts and discussions we used to be able to have at FR about candidates and issue. Of course now I can see it’s being called “trashing the candidates” on FR. /s

You are questioning the fortitude of a man who was the lone dissenting voice in quite a few senate votes. Fred Thompson stood up for his principles and he did it alone.

He is fulfilling his commitments right now, instead of blowing them off and just announcing he is running. He is a highly skilled campaigner. He worked to put himself through college and law school and he and his wife raised three kids at the same time.

He is NOT lazy, and when he is motivated, he is highly motivated. Really efficient people often appear to be lazy, because they have things organized so they can get things done without undue stress. I think that is what Thompson does.

There have been quite a few reasonable, intelligent posters here who support Giuliani’s candidacy. I can’t imagine any circumstance under which I’d vote for him, but those who focus on his “preferability” — no matter how marginal — over a radical leftist Democrat candidate usually have a far better case to make than those who get on here and pretend that Giuliani is somehow “conservative” in any real sense of the word.

As my barber told me the other day, it’s going to be:

Fred vs. Algore.
