No tin foil hat here, but do you have your head in a dark place that smells bad?
______________

LOL. So anyone not immediately suspecting terrorism in fairly run-of-the-mill industrial accidents has their head up their a$$?

If that works for you, I guess.

The traffic cam photo is rather impressive.

In many ways we seem to be sliding into Third World Status.

Huge fire shooting up into the sky and by tomorrow you won’t hear squat about this story.

Just another indicator our infrastructure is falling apart.

Ho Hum.....

When I saw a gas main explosion/fire several years ago my first though was “Why is the sun coming up at 10:00 pm.” It really did seem that way.

It was on the property of the Handley Generating station at Loop 820 & Rosedale Street.

The ignition point was at the NW corner of the property at a pressure release vent. Ignition time was at 0715 CST and burned down to a lower flame by 0735.

I didn't make it past the plant before they closed off Rosedale St @ Handley Drive.

FYI, the same vent was roaring Thursday 04/19/07 at the same time of the morning (0715). No activity during in the area, but I didn't linger to find out if it was NG or steam.

The only time I've seen a burn off like that was on a drilling rig.

I’m not so sure flames could reach and maintain 1,000 feet high. Sounds like the press means to say “really high”, “really, really high”, “the highest we’ve ever seen!” high.

I could be wrong, goodness knows it wouldn’t be the first, or the last time, but that’s awfully high for flames. The fireball from an accumulation of gas might be that high for a moment, but not sustained.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Gas is SO DANGEROUS. It can make a house BLOW APART AT THE SEAMS. I don’t know why they continue to allow people to use it. 0

Amazing how captivated the media is with fire.<<

Yes, although to an extent they are a reflection of the population. I find the comparison between Yahoo’s top stories versus their most emailed stories.

It often looks like this...

Explosions and fires have been happening around oil and gas a lot longer than there has been a serious threat of terrorism in the U.S.

Just ask any wingnut who tried to jumpstart his grill with high-test.

I work in the industry. You'd be surprised how often this type of thing happens when contractors hit a line that was not marked or marked properly. Lots of times a backhoe contractor for another utility or project will say "I can see the pipeline markers; I don't need to do a one-call and have to wait 48-hours for someone to mark it." Or if they hit it and it doesn't leak immediately, they cover the dent and go on their way. However, the coating has been damaged and the possibility that a future leak will occur due to corrosion is great. Also, contractors will put a guy on a backhoe that can't speak English well and hasn't been safety trained. When you have buried utilities, you make sure you hand dig anytime you're crossing buried lines.

No that is a good 30 to 45 minute drive from DFW airport, and probably at least 20 miles direct straight line.

Isn’t ALGORE in that area visiting Crow and Laurie on their Earth Day bus to green up Algore’s wallet. The bus runs on methane and Algore offered to refuel them from his intestinal gases. Perhaps this was a refueling accident?

I’m not so sure flames could reach and maintain 1,000 feet high.

Here are a couple of links to a gas fire in Chicago in 1998. This fire was fed by a high pressure 24" gas line that was ruptured by construction equipment. It took 30 minutes for the pipeline to shut down and for the residual pressure to escape.

If I did the link right, here is a pic of the emergency venting area where the NG was released and the fire was raging. I always thought this was a steam release vent.

http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q=

The NG release last Thursday was shooting gas 100' up with a huge gas gas cloud much higher drifting South.

What amazes me is that right before the summer driving season every year, there is always some sort of refinery mishap or pipeline shutdown.......something!

Then gas prices soar. Then next you hear of RECORD profits from the oil and gas companies.
