Keep in mind, it was named Greenland for a reason.

Yeah, to get people to move there.

SengirV,

You are aware the Vikings settled in Greenland and grew grain, right?

It had a very different climate at the time.

then 88% of the excess could be contained in the Qatarra Depression with a simple 50 mile or so long canal from the Medditerranean to drain it in.

I'm amazed Khaddafi never thought of doing this considering that it would create a huge amount of very desirable real estate. Think of an Italian climate in Africa or something like that.

Qattara is the spelling, FWIW. This interfered with your Wikipedia link.

Don’t let the developers know! How do you say Bering Straight in the Greenlandic?

Of course, it could be just like those little islands that keep popping up and then submerging in the Phillipenes.

If I believed in global warming (no caps .. it's an event, not a freakin' entity!) ... What, just what could anyone do about it?

So the ice caps melt ... it didn't just start.

I live in SW Pa. and I'd love to have some beach front property.

Seriously folks, We'd all have to go live in caves and use thermal heat from the Earth for about four generations to reverse this ... if it was true and if we were to blame ... which it isn't and we ain't.

Anyone got a beer?

I'm out.

Danish mapping expert Hans Jepsen said: "It was clearly detached from the mainland when the connecting glacier-bridge retreated southward."

My lord! That was one tough glacier-bridge, to detach the island from the mainland!

Does that make it a floating island, or did it put down new roots?

Properly, it is Global Warming®, since it is a product being advertised and sold in world commerce.

Not that we, here on FR, buy it.

In other news today that you will never read from the AP, Rueters, NYT or the rest of the media because it doesn’t work with their GW fairy tale script . . .

Albuquerque - Freezing rain hit the foothills of the city today fortelling the Glacial Climate Worry caused by human creation of undetermined pollutants. Though the world as we know it is about to end, residents enjoyed the unseasonably cold fronts that have been relentlessly attacking the state since the early Fall of 2006.

Most, if not all, of the Qattara Depression is in Egypt.

We could create our own inland sea in Death Valley, but it would be about one-third the depth, 40% of the surface area and would involve channeling water from the Pacfic through a mountain range. This is by no means an engineering impossibility, but it would be considerably more expensive and produce less bang for the buck than a channel to the Qattara.

On the other hand, considering Americans have more wealth, a 3000 square mile inland sea with majestic mountain vistas just beyond the shoreline would produce some very valuable real estate in central and southern California, the sales of which could more than pay for the project.

Ahh thanks ... didn't know that. Still a megaengineering project would be good for Egypt as they could sell the beachfront property and most likely manipulate the desert climate in their nation.

Linking the Pacific, Salton Depression and Death Valley with a canal of some kind would be a great idea as it introduces a natural barrier to California and increases the good real estate.

That’s what I was thinking. Shouldn’t there be less land, not more if the ice is melting.

Hey green weenies, make up your minds!
