Democratic Conferees Keep Timeline in Iraq War Spending Bill
Fox News ^ | April 23, 2007

WASHINGTON — President Bush is on a collision course with Democrats in Congress, who late Monday agreed to send him a timeline for withdrawal along with a $124.2 billion Iraq war emergency spending bill.

Before a standing room-only audience in the bowels of Capitol Hill, House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., announced the end of a conference meeting between House and Senate lawmakers after less than an hour. No formal vote was held on the legislation, an indication the fate of the bill was already sealed before the members arrived.

The emphasis of the legislation is on a timetable, specifically the requirement that troops begin withdrawing by Oct. 1, 2007, with a goal, though not a mandate, to withdraw all combat forces within the subsequent six months. Troops could come out as early as this summer if the Iraqi government does not enact political and security reforms.

"This agreement provides us a new direction that will show the Iraqis that our committment is not endless. it sets us on a path with the best chance of achieving success in Iraq," said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., who led the meeting in place of Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., who was under the weather and unable to attend.

Oh yeah Nancy!!! I like it when you're behind me all the way....

Everybody in Waco thinks I'm conservative..... and that I "love" the troops..

That's why I voted against the surge....

I voted for a artificial timeline in order to get more of our troops killed and demoralized..

. and I'm in the same party as Reid who has labelled our troops "Losers"....

Any and all Texans in the Brazos Valley need to copy or fax this to every newspaper's, radio station and television station e-mail you can find.

We've got two years to get this traitor out of our state and back to San Francisco where he belongs with his buddy Pelosi.

Reid spoke of the Democrats plan to attack Al Qeda in Iraq from bases in Kuwait and Jordan...

I think what he meant was that we would send Iraq strongly worded letters mailed from Kuwait and Jordan.

Does this forum STILL deny that Iraq is becoming Vietnam — all over again...

With MANY of the same “players” in their old roles of traitors?

Voting to end a war, in order to use that money on “social” vote buying scams to simply insure their own political careers and power crazed egos.....and pushing further toward their “socialism” agenda for the dumbed down, defanged and humiliated United States..

In a sane world, there would be Congress Critters hanging from lamp posts from the Capital to the White House...
We’ve become to “civilized” to survive as a Republic....

This is starting to look like a big political show by the Dems to shore up their support among the far left-wing. How can this bill “end all combat operations” and yet still “allow targeted counter-terrorism operations”? I’m pulling those quotes from memory from recent articles I read about the bill.

This does look a lot like Vietnam, but it’s also different: from what I read the Dems aren’t demanding a total withdrawal from Iraq; it’s more of a stand down of combat operations. They want to stop combat somehow and only support reconstruction, humanitarian assistance, and “targeted counter-terrorism operations.” They know that we need bases in Iraq to use for possible raids against Iranian nuclear sites in the future. So their bill is like a crazy schizophrenic political show to somehow “end combat” without really withdrawing most of our forces from Iraq. At least that’s my understanding of the bill.
