Very well done indeed .
Good Letter. Congrats.
Did you also see the letter in the Benicia Herald Sunday? I left on a trip and did not have time to respond. But, one of the "Thursday regulars" took political advantage of the VT tragedy to harp against Bush and the War in an attempt to drum up support for their misguided cause. Keep up the good work!
Howdy, neighbor. I haven’t read the Benicia paper. Usually I read the Napa Register (I used to live there) and on occasion the Times Herald. Maybe one of these days we can get together for some coffee and conversation. I’m right close by!

Thanks. Appreciate the kind words.
Thanks. Now to see if they publish it. Will keep you all posted.
No prob, very well written .
I heard Neal Gabler this weekend on Fox Media Watch, state that certain Canadian radio stations would not even discuss gun control because the NRA was so organized that they would just jam up the phone lines....lol
News for Neal Gabler , it’s just ordinary concerned citizens who know what they’re talking about that don’t take marching orders from the NRA ......although they might be members ... :)
Writing and calling are crucial in this battle, and it works .
This comment probably is not apropos for this thread, but I just have to wonder...what gets one thrown out of college these days. THE GUY SET FIRE TO HIS DORM...don’t you think that should be enough to at least get you expelled for the rest of the term. Has any of the media addressed this?
Also sent (as my last act before retiring for the night) to the Napa Valley Register (my former home and current home to some of the world’s finest wines!!)...
I got a word count of 787 here. Every paper has their own policy, but I know my local rag would not publish this because it’s too long. Maybe you could get a guest editorial spot that would allow you more space.

That’s what I hope will happen. In the Vallejo paper, the person I named did have a guest editorial, which I addressed in the back half of my article.
Thanks. I thought it would help set the tone...
Gotcha.
Ping...
Pretty fair. Though I'd have reworked the third graf as follows:
Yet despite the irrefutable evidence(and picturesof news photos of the responding, armed police officersstanding, hiding behind trees, a la Columbine),the usual suspects are calling now for even more victim disarmament. The bodies weren't even coldyet, when the firstof themedia personality was editorializing about a "need" for more gun control (read: Victim Disarmament).
My own view takes a somewhat different tack:
Fifty college students shot, more than thirty dead?
Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that it's time for more serious gun laws.
From now on, it's time for a really steep fine for anyone who fails to carry an effective defensive weapon, with jail time for repeat offenders.
It's a duty and responsibility of citizenship to not only take care of yourself, but to be able to assist others. I don't think that those with religious or other deeply held philosophical scruples against doing should be forced to do something against their beliefs, but there needs to be a way to tell them from the stupid or lazy who've just forgotten or misplaced their shooter. So a reasonably available exemption license should be available for those people once they demonstrate their sincerity, and something temporary for those medically or otherwise temporarily incapable of effectively defending themselves; they can get a license to not carry a weapon in public, as required by law.
The fees for such permits can be used to offset the public cost of protecting those who can't help protect themselves or others, with fee waivers for those experiencing simple temporary interruptions in their ability.
A college student who can't exhibit the ability and skill level of a $9.00-per-hour security guard doesn't belong in college. And if one of them would then negligently or irresponsibly act in ways that threaten others, there'll be an entire university community prepared and equipped to deal with it.
The bodies weren't even cold yet, when the first of the media personality was editorializing about a "need" for more gun control, (read: really just more of the same Victim Disarmament.).
Thanks for the comments. I LIKE the way you think!
