Michael Medved discusses how Conservative Judaism's famed "Goldilocks" approach has collapsed in the wake of shifting cultural trends and a desire to be progressive on on social issues. It illustrates a "moderate" approach in religion is doomed to failure since in the absence of defined values and clear standards, such values and standards will be thrown out the window as the once moderate religion shifts to the default position, which is of course, the Left. Such is in evidence in Conservative Judaism's downfall, signified byt its acceptance of gay marriage as a normative value in contravention of Torah values. True seekers of religion want firm guidance and veneration of tradition. They're unlikely to get it from a Goldilocks sect whose chief concern is remaining "relevant" in the eyes of society's politically correct arbiters.

Despite Old Testament references, they note, most people don't marry multiple wives today, or employ slave-like indentured servants in our homes, or avoid eating shellfish.

1. Polygamy, although permitted in the Torah, is not required, and has been banned by rabbinic decree.

2. The form of slavery alluded to was actually the biblical punishment for theft. A thief was sentenced to repay double the amount of the theft. If he did not have the money, the court forced him to work until the debt was repaid. As with polygamy, employing a slave is not a requirement BUT AN OPTION. The reason this method of punishing theft does not exist today, needs no explanation--use your imagination.

3. The prohibition against shellfish as not kosher is still in effect.

How pathetic to watch the Conservative Movement of Judaism selfdestruct, like its Christian counterparts. They should have known better, with a name like “conservative.” Their series of bad choices for their movement demonstrate how fundamentally empty their approach was all along.
