I love it. The Rudy boosters and the GOP leadership are being told loud and clear that their guy would split the GOP. It's not like conservatives are demanding someone hard right - support on FR for GOP centrist Fred Thompson is overwhleming.
But if the Rudy boosters insist on pushing their liberal for the nomination and he somehow wins, THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE for the party split that will ensue. Reagan showed the GOP how to win. The Rudy camp, in their hubris, thinks they can disregard that lesson.
You might be right.
It might be time for the Reoublican party to go to war with itself.
Maybe in the long run it would be a healthy exercise.
Maybe the GOP should ID itself and consider a split into right-center-left?
Maybe.
We see what the far left is doing to the democrats right now.
Do we want to follow their lead - and be guided by the far-right?
Maybe - maybe not.
