:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
U.S. Seeks Closing of Visa Loophole for Britons
-Full Story-

Omar Khyam, the ringleader of the thwarted London bomb plot who was sentenced to life imprisonment on Monday, showed the potential for disaffected young men to be lured as terrorists, a threat that British officials said they would have to contend with for a generation.

But the 25-year-old Mr. Khyam, a Briton of Pakistani descent, also personifies a larger and more immediate concern: as a British citizen, he could have entered the United States without a visa, like many of an estimated 800,000 other Britons of Pakistani origin.

American officials, citing the number of terror plots in Britain involving Britons with ties to Pakistan, expressed concern over the visa loophole. In recent months, the homeland security secretary, Michael Chertoff, has opened talks with the government here on how to curb the access of British citizens of Pakistani origin to the United States.

Danish-Moroccan Convicted of Terrorism Will Not Appeal Prison Sentence

Said Mansour
Danish source: http://politiken.dk/indland/article290271.ece

OSC tranlated text:

Said Mansour doesn’t want to appeal his three year and six month prison sentence for inciting terrorism.

“I hereby announce that my client Said Mansour does not wish to appeal the Copenhagen District Court’s sentence from 11 April 2007.”

That is what lawyer Gitte Juul Jensen says in a press statement on Tuesday (24 April).

“Said Mansour asks me to inform you that he does not believe the system will grant him justice or that his cause will be understood,” is the motivation.

Instigated Terror

Said Mansour was sentenced to three and a half years in prison 14 days ago when he was found guilty of having instigated acts of terrorism through his publishing company Al Nur Islamic Information — which was also called Ansar al-Jihad wal-Mujahidin.

The company distributed CDs, video and cassette tapes with speeches, songs, movies and photos, in which terrorists urged participation in jihad — violent holy war. The gory material also included rambling, racist attacks on Jews.

In the court’s opinion the material was “far beyond what can be described as statements of sympathy and is beyond what can be described as pure appreciation and recognition of terrorism.”

Cooperation With International Terrorists

It was widely distributed in the international network of holy fighters. Mansour’s materials have been found with terrorists or terror suspects in a large number of European countries and in the United States.

For example, he was in touch with the blind Shayk Omar Abdel Rahman, who has been given 240 years in prison for a bombing at the World Trade Center in 1993. Among the evidence against the notorious terror leader was material for which Mansour was responsible. Al-Zawahiri, the deputy commander of Al-Qa’ida, is also part of Mansour’s circle of friends.

* 1988: Får dansk statsborgerskab.
* 1986-1992 Kører boghandlen ‘Al Nur’ på Vesterbro og derefter forlaget Al Nur Islamic Information.
* 1995: Anholdes under mistanke for at planlægge terror mod FN-topmødet i København. Alle sigtelser bliver droppet.
* 2004: Idømmes tre måneders fængsel for våbenbesiddelse og hæleri.
* 2005: Anholdes og sigtes for at opildne til terror.

Two Al Qaeda Leaders, Three Terrorists Killed; 39 Detained in Iraq

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2007 – Coalition forces identified bodies of two al Qaeda leaders, killed three additional terrorists and nabbed 39 others during operations across Iraq recently, military officials said.

Coalition forces positively identified two more senior al Qaeda in Iraq leaders killed in the May 1 operation west of Taji that left Muharib Abdul Latif dead. One of the terrorists killed during the operation was positively identified as Sabah Hilal al-Shihawi, who reportedly was Latif’s religious advisor.

Another terrorist killed during the raid was Abu Ammar al-Masri. Intelligence reports indicate that he was a foreign fighter facilitating insurgent activity and infrastructure support for al Qaeda in Iraq.

Both terrorists were positively identified by associates at the site. In addition, Shihawi’s identity was positively verified in a photograph.

“We will not wait for these terrorists to strike; we will seek them out,” said Army Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a Multinational Force Iraq spokesman. “This is what al Qaeda in Iraq members can expect when they target the Iraqi people and security forces that protect them.”

During raids yesterday and today targeting al Qaeda leaders and a foreign fighter facilitation network in central Iraq, coalition forces killed three terrorists and detained six suspected terrorists.

En route to the first targeted location, coalition forces received small-arms fire from an individual with a chest rack of magazines and grenades. Troops reacted to the hostile threat with appropriate self-defense measures and returned fire, killing the armed terrorist, U.S. officials said.

Coalition forces continued to the first targeted site, where they called to the occupants to leave the building. Two armed men ran out of the building and engaged coalition forces with small-arms fire.

Using appropriate self-defense measures, coalition forces returned fire, killing one and injuring another, officials said. The injured individual was taken to a military medical facility, where he later died from his wounds.

Further searches of the targeted buildings uncovered four individuals suspected of ties to a foreign fighter facilitation network and al Qaeda in Iraq. The four suspected terrorists were detained.

In other operations, one suspect was detained southwest of Taji, and another was detained in a raid in northern Baghdad. Both individuals are allegedly tied to al Qaeda senior leaders and their network, military officials said.

“Each operation we conduct in pursuit of these terrorists is a systematic maneuver to chip away at the network of al Qaeda and rogue foreign fighter elements that are trying to derail the progress of Iraq,” Garver said.

During raids in Sadr City this morning, coalition forces detained 16 suspected terrorists. The individuals targeted during the raid are suspected members of a secret cell terrorist network known for helping transport terrorist recruits, weapons and explosively formed penetrators from Iran to Iraq. Intelligence reports also indicate the secret cell has ties to a kidnapping network that conducts attacks within Iraq, and has links to rogue elements in Iraq and Iran.

“This morning’s success is yet another example of the dedication and determination of coalition forces to rid Iraq of the terrorist organizations that threaten the safety and security of this country and its people,” Garver said.

Soldiers of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, discovered four improvised explosive devices, components for 25 additional improvised explosive devices, seven 107 mm Iranian-made rockets, and an 81 mm Iranian-made mortar during a combat operation in the Mahmudiyah area today. The contents of the cache were destroyed during a controlled detonation conducted by an explosive ordnance team.

In Operation Eagle Thunder III on May 2, soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, and the 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, from Fort Drum, N.Y., detained nine suspected terrorists and discovered weapons in Mahmudiyah. While conducting searches of the area, soldiers found a weapons cache in the reeds that consisted of homemade grenades. Troops also discovered two improvised explosive devices during the operation.

The suspected terrorists were detained for suspicious activity and are being held for further questioning. The weapons were destroyed during a controlled detonation conducted by the explosive ordnance team.

Jihadists blow up 20 video shops in Pakistan
And a bomb exploded outside a girls’ school.

“Extremists blow up 20 video shops in Pakistan,” from SAPA-DPA, with thanks to James:

Islamabad - Radical Islamists have blown up 20 video shops in two cities of Pakistan’s North Western Frontier Province (NWFP), while a bomb exploded outside a girls’ school in the same region, local media reported on Friday.
Several small bombs exploded in the semi-tribal cities of Charsadda and Tangi on Thursday night, but caused no casualties, the Aaj news channel reported.

The explosions occurred days after the owners of the businesses received warnings from Taliban-styled radical Islamists to cease trading, calling the sale and renting of movies and music videos un-Islamic.

In another incident, a bomb exploded at the main entrance of a girls’ school in the small NWFP town of Gujrat, damaging the main gate, the Geo news channel reported.

Pakistan: Convert to Islam expelled from village, house set afire, for not embracing “authentic Islam”

A victim of rivalry between two jihadist groups, Ansar ul-Islam and Lashkar-e-Islam. This could be essentially nothing more than a turf war, but it is significant that it takes on theological coloring — for theological appeals to the purity and authenticity of Islam underlie much jihad recruitment today.

“Pak Sikh expelled for not embracing ‘authentic Islam,’” from PTI, with thanks to Infidel:

ISLAMABAD: An Islamist group in Pakistan has forced a Sikh, who had converted to Islam 29 years ago, to leave his village in Peshawar’s Tirah Valley after his house was set on fire and his son kidnapped for not embracing “authentic Islam”.

Leaders of Ansar-ul-Islam (AI), a religious group in North West Frontier Province’s Khyber Agency, was accused of expelling the Tirah-based Sikh for converting to the “Lashkar-e-Islam’s untrue version of Islam”.

“Qazi Mehboob and Said Akbar came to me and said my first Islam is not genuine. They said it was tableeghi Islam,” said Din Muhammad, who had converted to Islam 29 years ago.

The Ansar-ul-Islam leaders also forced his family to leave their native village Landakas in Tirah Valley when he refused to accept their demand to revert to Sikhism or embrace the “authentic Islam” that the Ansar-ul-Islam was practising.

He accused the Ansar-ul-Islam activists of kidnapping one of his four sons and forcing him to a pay a ransom of Rs 200,000 for his release.

They also set his house on fire a month ago and seized his land.

“The moment a teenage girl was stoned to death for loving the wrong boy”
Last updated at 18:28pm on 3rd May 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A 17-year-old girl has been stoned to death in Iraq because she loved a teenage boy of the wrong religion.

As a horrifying video of the stoning went out on the Internet, the British arm of Amnesty International condemned the death of Du’a Khalil Aswad as “an abhorrent murder” and demanded that her killers be brought to justice.

Reports from Iraq said a local security force witnessed the incident, but did nothing to try to stop it. Now her boyfriend is in hiding in fear for his life.

Miss Aswad, a member of a minority Kurdish religious group called Yezidi, was condemned to death as an “honour killing” by other men in her family and hardline religious leaders because of her relationship with the Sunni Muslim boy.”

“Police on Alert As Chlorine Hits Iraq
NYPD Quietly Begins Tracking Shipments”
By BRADLEY HOPE
Staff Reporter of the Sun
May 1, 2007

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The infrastructure protection chief of the Department of Homeland Security, Robert Stephan, said last week that authorities should step up their scrutiny of chlorine across the country, adding that 150-pound containers of chlorine are in wide commercial use throughout the country.

“We’ve got to be prepared for it,” he told USA Today. The paper reported that the Chlorine Institute, a trade group for the industry, recently alerted the FBI to stolen chlorine tanks in California. A 1,600-gallon tank of chlorine disappeared from a parking lot in Tallahassee, Fla., early last month, the Tallahassee Democrat reported.”

Chlorine was used in WWI as a choking agent but only about 4% of it's victims actually died. The worst case scenario for Chlorine I would imagine is a scenario invloving a LOT of really little kids. Their tender lungs would be really vunerable. But a chlorine cloud is going to be very visible and there certainly is a warning scent and any sort of filter will work. This is something best used as a distractor to a main force event elsewhere.

At this time and as of this post, Iraq is the country having problems with chlorine bomb incidents.

Actually I was referring to the theft of over 1600 gallons in California. That has raised a lot of red flags about a looming terrorist attack on US soil again. I think that the chlorine would act as a diversion from the real thrust.
