May 25, 2007 - 12:58pm
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A middle school student who contracted an antibiotic-resistant staph infection will be allowed to return to class on Tuesday, school officials said.
Officials notified parents of students at Community School on Wednesday that the boy had been diagnosed with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA _ an infection that cannot be treated by penicillin.
The school remained open, and officials assured parents no other students were at risk.
MRSA is not airborne, but can be fatal.”
