I’m not backbiting. Just reminding folks that Sarko is not the “deliverer from evil” Socialism.

We have more work to do.

You can certainly pick winners from losers in those photos!

The similarities to the post-election Kerry pity party are startling.

Just imagine having to see all of those threadbare Royal bumper stickers for the next five years as you ride through the Arc d'Triumph.

“Congratulations, then! I was wondering if your wife was eligible to vote? Does she automatically become a French citizen through marriage? If these questions are too personal, please feel free to ignore them. :O)”

Well, first of all, to make a long story short, this marriage is about to end - and I’ll stop it at that.

As far as her ability to vote is concerned, no, she did not and could not vote this time, because she is not a French citizen. French citizenship isn’t acquired automatically, it has to be asked by the foreign national, even when he/she is married to a French citizen. A French citizen’s foreign spouse can petition for French citizenship after two years of continuous life with their spouse, and the process takes a few months to be processed. Our marriage was celebrated in March, so even if she had petitioned immediately after the two years, she probably wouldn’t have been able to vote for the presidential election.

the US where abortion on demand until the end of the 9th month of pregnancy is deemed “legal” a God granted RIGHT.

That is false. Chirac hates Sarkozy and has more in common with Royal who is also Enarc.

He’s a breath of fresh air. I won’t get overly hopeful, but he’s not Chirac’s man by any means.

Question for Cincinna: Do the French use bumper stickers in campaigns?

He's nonetheless a big improvement over what they've had. A spiritual revival in France - indeed in all of Europe - is indeed long overdue, and the Pope is working toward that end. In the meantime, enjoy at least a big step in the right direction for one of our historic friends.

FWIW the French abortion rate is lower than U.S. - 14-15% vs 24% here, 2003 figures (source).

“Hillary would go on and on and on in upcoming debates about how France made the “right decision” to elect a female [liberal] President and that the US needs the same thing [a liberal female President] to get things back on track too.”

I’d thought about that too....we certainly don’t need a liberal female president.

Comments about women looking hot are never out of order. Well, rarely, anyway. I don’t think Royal is that hot, but for a politician she isn’t bad.

And don’t insult people for being new to FReep. It’s idiotic.

This was a very important election for the future of France and the western alliance. “She was hot” may work for you and the newbie but this was far important than that. If you feel that strongly about it, post some pictures for desired level of “hotness”. Idiot.

Yes, it was a very important election, and Royal’s looks are very unimportant to me. But don’t krap on someone for mentioning it. I’ve made many substantive comments on this election for the last week or so. And I repeat: Trashing someone for being new to FReep, which you have done, is idiotic.

Take it down a notch, Speedy.

This isn't the House of Bourbon and no one insulted your aristocratic lineage so just chill.

None is more overjoyed than I am today. I am merely suggesting withholding my most heartfelt support until a stake has been driven through the heart of abortion. That goes for Europe as well as America.

Thanks for helping to slap this guy down. Some FReepers need it.

Even I could not help noticing Madame Royal’s features are quite pleasant on the eye. Still, when it comes to governance it is the sweetness and character on the inside that carries lasting consequence.

Let's give credit where it's due.
