No need to be too excited. True, Royal needed to be defeated as she is virulently anti-American and radically socialistic (promises of enormous pay raises and bans on firing, etc.)...but Sarkozy is still Chirac’s boy.

The good news is that Chirac is now gone (and until Sarkozy prostitutes himself - which he will - eligible for prosecution for his bloodshed and bribes) from Office just as are Germany’s Schroeder and Canada’s Martin and Saddam Hussein and every other major anti-Iraq war leader.

...whereas pro-Iraq-War Bush, PM Blair, and PM Howard are still in power.

We care about France. The many hundreds of FReepers who have been posting on these threads and taking great interest in this election.

This is a great opportunity for France. A great day for France, and a great day for Americans. A strong, pro-American France as a friend, ally, and trading partner is very important to us.

In addition, no more “freedom fries” and we can drink French Champagne and wonderful French wines again.

Sorry...you are wrong. I was over there in December for a week and stayed in several French homes. Many, many French citizens are just as fed up with the liberal, socialits, marxist, abetting, corrupt governmental policies in their country as we are in ours.

They are voicing those feelings in the vote today and I believe it will make a difference...they sure hope it will.

Those folks I spoke with, who feel this way, still, to this day, hold the United States in high esteem. I hope we give them reason to continue to do so in our own next election cycle, instead of ourselves turnig to the very thing they are now rejecting.

France sucks regardless.

I can’t see why so Freepers care about this. Sorry.

I’ve only followed this from a distance- but I surely hope the very best for France- does it seem the citizens are beginning to understand the disasterous results of socialism?

Sarko is definitely not “Chirac’s boy” . They broke several years ago. Chirac brought him back intop his government because he was the most competent, and the most popular member of the UMP Party.

Sarko was success, in no small due to the fact that he was able to totally unite his Party behind him, with no opposition.

Chirac, in the end supported Sarko, and Bernadette Chirac was very often at Sarko’s side when he appeared at Rallyes.

It’s better for the US if there is a more American-friendly administration in France as opposed to one intent on sabotaging us. Pretty simple why many FReepers care about this.

I’m happy for the French! Canada elected Stephen Harper and things are getting better for them, so let’s hope that the French can catch a break too!

The reason Royal losing this election should be important to us is because her loss bodes very, very badly for Hillary.

Just imagine if Royal had won. Hillary would go on and on and on in upcoming debates about how France made the “right decision” to elect a female [liberal] President and that the US needs the same thing [a liberal female President] to get things back on track too.
