THOMPSON COMMITTEE SHUTS DOWN FINANCE COMMITTEE HEARINGS (a Thompson Flashback from 1997)
Judicialwatch.org ^ | Dec 18, 1997 | STAFF

Posted on 05/08/2007 10:32:57 AM PDT by Nachum

NEW EVIDENCE REVEALS WHY THOMPSON COMMITTEE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT EXPLORING SALE OF CLINTON TRADE MISSION SEATS TO DONORS

Entergy Corporation, a Large Clinton Donor Which Put Together Joint Venture With Lippo and Communist Chinese Government on Ron Brown Trade Mission, Also Big Donor To Republicans

TRADE MISSIONS CONTINUE TO BE KEY TO CAMPAIGN FINANCE SCANDAL

Larry Klayman, Chairman and General Counsel of Judicial Watch, the group that sued the Clinton Commerce Department over its illegal sale of seats on foreign trade missions in exchange for political contributions to the Clinton-Gore Campaign and the Democratic National Committee, and which deposed John Huang, sparking the current scandal, today issued the following statement: "USA Today has just revealed that Entergy Corporation, a large Arkansas and Louisiana based energy company, which participated on several Commerce Department trade missions, and was a joint venture partner with John Huang's Lippo Group and the Communist Chinese government during a trade mission to China in 1994, is also a large Republican donor. In an article today, Jill Lawrence reports that Entergy got special favors from Haley Barbour in exchange for large campaign contributions.

The sale of seats on multi-million dollar trade missions by the Clinton Administration, where taxpayer funds were used to help big donors such as Entergy obtain billion dollar overseas business, is a violation of the U.S. criminal code at 18 U.S.C. 600. Along with rides on Air Force One, overnight stays in the White House, meetings with Clinton Administration officials, and other influence peddling, the trade missions are the biggest ticket item that was sold by the Democrats for campaign contributions. They are also where U.S. national security interests may have been compromised, and are thus the key to unraveling the full extent of the scandal.

The revelation by USA Today that Entergy, which is at the core of the scandal, got favors from Republicans in exchange for campaign contributions, provides one small example why Senator Thompson shut down his hearings, claiming disingenuously that he was 'out of witnesses.' Certainly, Mr. Lupberger, the CEO of Entergy who gave to Republicans and benefitted from the Clinton trade missions, is available to testify, as just one example."

Judicial Watch continues its case against the Clinton Commerce Department, and strongly condemns Senator Thompson for not leveling with the American people. Contrary to Senator Thompson, Judicial Watch sees many witnesses to depose in its case, including the continued deposition of John Huang and the deposition of Mickey Kantor, among many others

I’d be careful with that. A dose of reality could end this thread prematurely. ;)

>There are globalists and there are globalists. A supporter of free trade is not necessarily a “one worlder”.<

Oh. You are saying they were separated at birth? Come on.

Why would the powers that be in America have signed a free trade agreement which puts us at a disadvantage with China? Mind you, I said China, NOT OUR OTHER TRADE PARTNERS! I am for free trade if it is FAIR trade, and our trade agreement with China is NOT fair to America.

Since the globalist NAFTA, GAT and WTO agreements commenced, so have our serious problems with industry moving out of the country, taking jobs with them. So something is wrong out there somewhere, wouldn’t you agree? Or do you like seeing the middle class going down the tubes in our service oriented economy?

It wasn’t broke, but the globalists fixed it anyway, and now it is really broke!

Are we sure we want Thompson?

Why? Because his Committee that investigated corruption and did result in multiple successful prosecutions by the Justice Department didn't subpoena and question each and every possible witness that Judaical Watch had a conspiracy theory about, but no real evidence?

Such committees are usually political side shows rather than real investigations even if the head of the committee has good intentions. The end up being a huge waste of taxpayer money. The justice department does the real investigations and prosecutions of criminal activity. Congress has oversight authority, so they have the authority to investigate to see if the Justice Department is doing it's job and see if there are issues that need brought to the attention of the Justice department.

It is not Congress' place to investigate such possible crimes in detail and prosecute them. Thompson did his job, then brought the Committee to an end rather than let it continue on indefinitely as a politically motivated witch hunt.

No thanks.

Well, I hope you enjoy being a leader in the "all-or-nothing" movement. Be advised that it leans pretty heavily on the nothing side.

"I notice how easily you dismiss the Media CRUCIFICTION of anyone that dared question the Clintonists’a on this..

That, and the rate that bodies were turning up in relation to Clinton Corruption at the time..."

Well, if Thompson was not up to the challenge from the Clintons or the media -- then what the hell makes you think he is up to the challenges we face today?

If Thompson was frightened by Hillary -- I guess we can expect him to shit himself or surrender when confronting a real enemy such as the murderous Islamic lunatics who wants to dominate the world and kill as many infidels as possible....

INCLUDING you, your children and your grandchildren..

Those of us in Kalifornicate elected a Governor - thinking he was the man he played in the movies..
He isn't...
What we have is SchwarzenKennedy....not the Terminator.
We should beware the same mistake with Thompson...

A blast from the past.

Are we sure we want Thompson?

I'd like to see a Hunter/Thompson ticket, but I'll go with Thompson/Hunter. IMHO, Thompson's record stands up to scrutiny.

Why would the powers that be in America have signed a free trade agreement which puts us at a disadvantage with China?

Because they recieve huge political contributions from the global corporations who can make more money by avoiding our draconian taxes and trade policies and our socialist wage/environmental laws and the unions by producing products elsewhere. Our politicians aren’t willing to give us more economic liberty, avoid the temptation of stealing profits from business and hold re-election as the top priority.

Except folks like Thompson who don’t seem to be tapeworms and can get honest work outside of DC.

>Fred Thompson is not mentioned in the article ma’am.<

Only indirectly, as he is a self-professed globalist.
In Post 67 I named the subject matter as NAFTA, a part of globalism.

I’m sure I want Fred Thompson. What are the mud slingers afraid of? He hasn’t even announced and yet they are coming up with stuff to discredit him. Just because they say “it” doesn’t mean that “it” is the truth. And if it were, I want to know the reasons for actions before jumping.

“I have it on good authority that, on occasion, Thompson does not put up the toilet seat.”

You mean “down”? I would respect him even more if he didn’t leave it up.

Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter and the only two candidates worth considering in my view. (And since Thompson hasn't declared as yet, Duncan Hunter is getting my support. If Thompson declares, then I may have to think about him.)
