Will the arrests of three illegal immigrants in an alleged plot to attack Fort Dix, N.J. hurt the effort in Congress to pass a major immigration bill?
Sen. Robert Menendez, a New Jersey Democrat, said Thursday it would actually help the case for the legislation.
It makes it more compelling. I would rather know who is here in America to pursue the American dream versus who is here to destroy it, he said, in a conference call with reporters.
An immigration reform that requires all current illegal immigrants to register with the government and go through background checks creates for us greater security than the present system that allows people like those who were thinking to attack Fort Dix to remain in the darkness and pursue their cause, Menendez said.
In addition to the illegal immigrants described by authorities as ethnic Albanians and Islamic extremists three others were also arrested in the alleged plot.
Police said the men were planning to attack Fort Dix in an effort to kill American soldiers and that they were inspired by al-Qaida.
One day earlier, a reporter asked Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy the same question.
It would be a real tragedy if we tried to make this immigration debate one dealing with terrorism, the Vermont Democrat said. We certainly believe that the borders should be secure and were going to do everything we can to make sure the borders are secure.
In addition, Leahy noted that the Oklahoma City bombing one of the greatest terrorist actions ever on our soil was carried out by an American citizen, a former member of our military.
Well fight terrorists. Well fight homegrown terrorists. Well fight terrorists coming from outside our shores, he said.
Moron.
He’s trying to outdo Republican moron Mel Martinez.
It must be a cultural thing.
Duuuuuhhhhhh, we already gots dat, had it forever, and whut gud duz it do?
“......were going to do everything we can to make sure the borders are secure.
“everything” short of actually doing anything other than speechify.
Blind leading the blind.
And the greatest terrorist act was made by those who were here either on student visa's and not being checked or here illegally.
Folks have been using fertilizer, fuel oil and electrical detonation for decades to blow stumps in rural America.
It's not like this stuff is rocket science.
From witness testimony at the McVeigh trial, we learned that his fertilizer bombs did not work until after an extended trip he took with Nichols to the Philippines.
Our policies of mass migration allow the terrorist fishes to swim in a sea of co-nationals, we need a timeout.
So there were three illegals, two legal immigrants and one citizen.
No pattern there.
Now, what did they all have in common?
Could it be ... Islam?
Or, they could have simply gone down the road a piece from Nichols rural home and found out about the technique simply by watching some farmer blow stumps.
You don't have to be a terrorist to know how to use explosive substances.
Both Nichols and McVeigh made several trips there. And I don’t think anyone has been a ‘stump farmer’ in quite a few years.
BTW, a former work associate used to manufacture explosives on site for major dam and mining projects (as a DuPont employee) ~ he could explain the details of the process in just a few minutes.
He gave up that business to go to work for USPS after encountering a conflict between the Communist unions and the government in pre-Allende Chile.
You don't go to the Philippines to learn about it ~
Maybe they liked the whores there.
Ummm..this will not do one thing to stop the tsunami of illegals coming into this country which borders on anarchy.
We have an immigration policy in place. If we can't enforce our existing laws, then nothing we do will stop the invasion..NOTHING!

Yes, it's a cultural thing. It's a political cultural thing.
All politicians, be they Democrats or Republicans, are whores who will say whatever they think will get them twelve more votes in the next election after have been told by polls what will sway those twelve extra votes.
If you are implying that we Cubans are morons, I would be happy to compare our respective achievements with you and I would point out that only the over 81% Cuban American vote for Bush in Florida in 2000 (while the rest of America gave Al Gore a majority in the popular vote) prevented Al Gore from being President of the United States.
