Hence the reason that everything in south-central New Jersey is named “Princeton” this or “Princeton” that even though the actual township of Princeton is rather small.

Yep, which is why a portion of West Windsor is named "Princeton Junction" and there is an office complex in West Trenton (itself in Ewing township) called "Princeton Manor."

The Princeton nonesense starts in South Brunswick and ends at the Delaware.

BTW: We always refer to ourselves as "Central New Jersey" around here. "South Jersey" is filled with Phillies fans, and is basically a Jeff Foxworthy/Larry the Cable guy routine with better Italian food. It truly is another world from Bordentown to Greenwich. ;-)
