Michael Moore Calls For End To Federal Probe

LOS ANGELES -- Filmmaker Michael Moore is asking the Bush administration to end its investigation of his trip to Cuba.

Moore traveled to the island nation in March to get treatment for some ailing 9/11 rescue workers for a segment in his upcoming health care documentary, "Sicko."

In a letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Moore said that the White House may have opened the investigation for political reasons.

Moore said that the Bush administration is "coming after" him because he's trying to help the people they "refuse" to help. But the filmmaker insisted that he has broken no laws and has nothing to hide.

Moore railed against the administration for their handling of Sept. 11 and the Iraq war in the documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11." When Moore accepted the Best Documentary Oscar for film, he openly criticized Bush -- and was met with a combination of cheers and jeers from those at the ceremony at Hollywood's Kodak Theater.

Regarding the scrutiny over "Sicko," Treasury officials said that they won't comment on Moore's letter, citing a policy against discussing specific investigations being conducted by Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control.

The agency enforces the trade embargo against Cuba.

If MM has nothing to hide and did nothing wrong then what’s the problem? He will be duly exonerated, just like Scooter Libby.....

I thought ‘Sicko’ was the title of Michael Moron’s autobiography.

If not, it should be.

Certainly, those weren't the reasons you went to Cuba, were they, Michael?

Somebody should tell this hypocrite ‘be thankful we don’t assign camera crews to follow you for days or weeks on end, documenting your life, then editing it all to make you look ridiculous’.

(chuckle)

So if the Justice Department opens an investigation, it is a “White House investigation”, or a “Bush Administration investigation”?

LOL! That is sooo funny! Somethings telling me that ole' Michael's in a pinch. I'm sure 'Fahrenheit 911' is still on W's mind.

Define irony...

Michael Moore should explain why he believes he is exempt from following US law.

Moore is a puke who has managed to capitalize on the ignorance that is the regular produce of our Public School education systems.

Throw him in the klink for every infraction, and let him wallow with even stupider white men, and the bros.

He is such trash.

“Michael Moore” and the word “probe” together in the title kind makes me sick.

If MM needs a “probe” or a heart bi-pass to save his life I’ll bet he doesn’t go to Cuba to get it.

I haven’t read in depth on this “sicko” thing... but can someone tell me why he was taking this guy to Cuba? I didn’t understand that? Is Moore trying to promote Cuba’s healthcare system?

Publicity stunt with the Feds playing right into Moore’s hands.

I disagree.

The feds should investigate, but should make public statements like: "(Insert correct number here) journalists followed the law and applied for travel permits to Cuba that year. Mr. Moore is not above the law and has to go through the same process that every other citizen is required to."

They should also say: "We are not seeking jail time, but Mr. Moore knew that failure to comply with the law could result in prison time and hefty fines. We feel that our lenience on the issue of incarceration is appropriate, but Mr. Moore cannot simply break whatever laws he wants with impunity."

I’m sure everyone who is being probed by the government would like to have a media platform to call for the investigation to be halted.

Yes, his point in the upcoming movie is that the US health system sucks and “universal” systems like Cuba’s supposedly is are superior to it.
