(CBS) NEW YORK Nearly a week after radio shock jocks Opie and Anthony received major heat for comments about engaging in sexual acts with Condoleeza Rice, Laura Bush, and Queen Elizabeth II, XM Radio slapped the pair with a 30 day suspension of "The Opie & Anthony Show."

CBS Radio, a unit of CBS Corp., simulcasts a censored daily version of the Opie & Anthony show, which airs uncensored on XM Satellite Radio.

"Our plan is for them to be on-air tomorrow, according to a CBS spokeswoman

According to a recent post on his blog, he will be returning to radio in the (hopefully near) future.

I’m more than dismayed that so many conservatives here on FR are supporting XM in this suspension. As with Imus, the comments were taken completely out of context, and spun from tasteless humor into political controversy from thin air. As was said above, the club that is currently beating O&A to the cheers of many freepers will be turned on all the conservative talkers eventually. It saddens me deeply that so many here fail to see the shortsightedness of their cheerleading.

Freepers pride themselves on being well informed, but this case sheds light on the fact that many are nothing more than spoon fed media babies, lapping up whatever is dished out with a smile on their face finishing it up with righteous indignation.

As you said, neither of these guys advocated the rape of anyone. It was merely a throw away line that came to the attention of everyone here because Imus’ blood is still swirling in the water, and the people who would dictate to us what we think and say needed to feed again.

Freepers: You better get a grip and figure out whats going on here. Today O&A for a throw away line in humor, tomorrow Rush Limbaugh for pointing out some other factual point, taken (once again) completely out of context, that may or may not hinge on race. Wake up!

You’re correct. I heard the broadcast in question and it’s astounding how this has been misrepresented.

Apparently however, they weren’t suspended due to the broadcast, but that they signed a contract not to speak on air about it and apparently did. I don’t recall that but I only listen on my commute.

CBS did not air the offensive portion, so why should they punish the jocks?

Re your post 7: one of these days clowns like these two will go too far and will find a husband or father waiting outside the studio for them. Only the intervention of God or the police will save their mangy asses then.

Hendrie is hillarious on radio, but awful as an actor on television. Check that TV clip on his website. Yuck!!!

I am loyal to O & A since the mid-90s when FM radio stunk and every DJ was a phony, leftwing idiot in Boston. O & A didn’t sell their show as rightwing, they just spoke common sense truth about things.

They took a real dive when they moved to New York... terrible stunts, idiot guests. Their IQ lowered noticeably.

Why aren’t freepers emailing CBS and XM to express their unhappiness?

Because it wouldn't matter?

Apparently however, they weren’t suspended due to the broadcast, but that they signed a contract not to speak on air about it and apparently did. I don’t recall that but I only listen on my commute.

From what I have heard of the show in the last few weeks, they have been staunch Imus defenders on principle, not because he was their buddy. They have not addressed their recent situation with XM on the show other than to apologize, but they did continue to discuss the basic theme of the recent witch hunt against radio personalities. They have joked repeatedly over the last few weeks that it was just a matter of time before someone played gotcha with them. How right they were. I applaud them for being consistent and defending others, even radio competitors, when it wasn't popular. Sean Hannity agrees with them on that and so do I.

One doesn't have to like their crude humor to deride the current state of intolerant hypocrisy that is savaging talk radio. What kind of show does XM expect if and when they return from suspension? They are encouraged to be vulgar shock jocks but now they will be neutered. You simply cannot have freewheeling and frank locker room discussion if every thing you say will be taken seriously and can be punished. I am guessing they won't be back on XM, either by their choice or the company.

Bring back Phil Hendrie!

I hear ya, man. But Phil quit doing his show. He has said he may return to radio someday, but isn't interested in doing skit comedy anymore. He feels he's taken it as far as he could. I guess he ran out of ideas for his insane voices.

Really a shame for us fans, because he's the only one in the world who can do what he does so well.

I agree. How dare Al Sharpton dictate what we listen to. I mean the guy was instrumental in many deaths due to his agitation - not to mention the ruined lives in the Brawley case.

I agree with you, in that we shouldnt tolerate his bigoted, racist attitude.

Save O&A

I just hope and pray people return to self discipline and know what is right or wrong to say and what is hurtful and wrong to say. We need a big change in this country and I hope it comes soon.

i find this all very funny in a sad, sad way.

It seems to me that radio is held to this different standard then television. i have seen jokes of this nature (and MUCH worse) on many TV shows, both cable and network, and never have i heard such an uproar.

its hard to say this is not an attack to remove talk radio altogether with this double standard staring in our faces.

I agree. TV needs to be cleaned up too. I knew it was just a matter of time that TV shows would become just like movies. I guess talent just can’t find its way onto the tube without bad language and nudity. It is sad. However, I think too there is an element trying to quiet radio. I don’t think it will happen and I know there are stations that are outrageous and people have a right to listn or watch them. On the other hand I think the “entertainers” need to be a little more self disciplined and not always joke or say such awful things just to get laughs and ratings. I’d like to think people will begin to be a little more responsible. I doubt it though.

So I take it you support the firing of Bill O’Reilly for him not condoning a guest on his show saying it’s a shame that a rape only lasted 2 minutes?

For the life of me, I just don't get the connection with my earlier post. I don't have cable and therefore don't watch Bill O'Reilly so I don't know your reference.

All I said was that it is possible that one of these days these two idiots named Opie and Anthony could really hack off somebody with their sexual innuendo talk (which I'll bet is geared to the 12-year-old mind) and get their little asses kicked as a reward.
