You’re forgetting that Bush’s choice or Harriet Miers for a SCOTUS nominee was hardly the stuff of conservative wishes. It wasn’t until the conservative base put up a flaming of national proportions that Bush caught a clue.

Conservatives got conservative jurists because conservatives howled, not because it as Bush’s instinct to appoint them.

We will never know the true story of the Harriet Miers nomination. I happen to think that Bush has a lot more political savvy that most people give him credit for. John Roberts was apparently his first choice for Supreme Court Justice since he was his first nominee. Besides, we did not get Harriet Miers, we got Sam Alito who we might not have gotten had he not tried a woman first.

You have obviously forgotten all of the OUTSTANDING appeals court judges nominated by GWB that the obstructionist Democrats refused to allow to come to a vote. Miguel Estrada is the most well known, but Terrence Boyle from my home state of NC is the one I am most upset about. The refusal of the Dems to allow him to come to a vote was payback for something that happened while Jesse Helms was still the Senator from NC. The Republicans are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but the Democrats are willing to ruin the lives of others simply to make a political point.
